So...I've been hit. What I'D call a block buster. Actually 8 oz. of Oriental Dusk out of the group buy. More than nice...it's a stunner.

Thanks to Drums & Beer I won't soon go dry on what is arguably my favorite blend.

Thanx & a hat tip to DnB!

cheers cheers cheers

No BH, Thank you!

Whether by your reviews on the big site or your thoughts written here, you have turned me onto at least 6-7 mixtures that were righteous grand slams and Oriental Dusk was one of them, and I would not have experienced it if not for your recommendation. Very Happy

Hopefully we can collectively keep Mr. Patton's blends available for years to come. Cool

This is grand. Way to go both of you. Blackhorse has definitely turned me on to many things too. My first Patton blends came from him and more. John.

Congratulations to both of you! cheers

Though considering the excitement around this blend, it sounds like I need to check that, and other Patton blends, out....

DB, could you list those 6-7 mixtures you are referring to? I have read some of your reviews, and I know you have a lot of experience sampling tobaccos. If they stand out as grand slams in your rotation, I know they must be worth checking out.

Yeah...I'd be interested as well.

BTW: Sitting outside in a lawn chair letting my Pug 'Watson' have his way with the yard...just lit up a bowl of this OD in my Briar Spirit Bent Irish. Perfect!

Edit: OK...one bowl down. Impression: while the jar aroma seemed a bit more Burley cocoa/vanilla than I remembered of prior batches and was slightly less dry the experience was dead on Oriental Dusk- ish. That being an underpinning of the VA/Burley with an interplay between the Turkish and Cigar Leaf on top. Over, under, around and through...this is the real deal...and one of my all time favorites. I expect it will shift a bit with time, mellowing somewhat, as it should, to the perfect blending of the components. All hail John Patton & Rich (?) at 4 N's. This stuff is right there. Kudos!

cheers cheers cheers

Dutch, here's the list. Funny thing is, there's more than I originally thought.

Storm Front
Oriental Dusk
Oriental Silk
Silver Flake 660
Pebblecut (Ashton Revival)
Tilbury
Woodbridge
Ramsgate
No. 7 Broken Flake
Dark Flake Scented
Samarra

How's that for influencing a fellow piper? Cool

Thanks so much DB! I have an 8oz tin of Samarra in my cellar with 2 years of age, that Greg suggested in his Junebug, but I have never sampled the others on your list. Looking forward to checking them out!

Awesome how a thread revived an old favorite. Kudos to both of you guys, and thanks for the review on the new batch Blackhorse! Sounds like something I might want to try........

Stormfront
DarkHorse
Oriental Dusk
Oriental silk
HH AP
Crossroads

I got to try from a Blackhorse trade.

Pebblecut
Ramsgate
Blackpool
Firedance Flake

I got from a BlackHorse initiated boxpass. I got the box first so those subtractions came from BlackHorse additions I assume.

Snuff sampler.

I got from the team of BlackHorse and the generous Fatman.

Those are all first tries for me BlackHorse had a hand in. Watch out Brother! You're going to get a reputation. affraid
