Cheers,

Here here! Our parents were real parents and realized we didn't need a fence around us but, a stiff hand to teach us right from wrong. Big money and the government didn't try to control our lives just to sell us some needless garbage that they'd tell us we need by trying to do mass brain washing and propaganda.
America is gone and is only in the hearts of those who remember her, welcome to the United World program otherwise known as "The END"!

Back when I was a kid, we played cowboys and Indians with our BB guns. We never put each others eye out, because we were good shots, and only aimed for an ear.

We rode bikes and jumped 55 gal drums turned on the side, until we got old enough for a motorcycle so we could jump something bigger, like Evil Knievel.

Yeah, we got hurt, even broke a bone or two, but parents didn't have cell phones with attorneys' on speed dial. I remember having a bicycle wreck at the bottom of a long hill, where I wiped out on asphalt, and sheared off 4 front teeth, and the roots had to be extracted at the dentist. They said daddy almost passed out in the waiting room during that episode, but when it came time for my first dirt bike, I was ready to run. Before that, Daddy didn't even know what a Vagal nerve was.

I even remember busting my chin wide open on the bathroom floor at school, because the janitor had mopped the floor, and it hadn't had a chance to dry. Nothing a few stitches couldn't fix. I stopped running on wet floors after that, and the principal nor the janitor ever had to worry about losing their job over it.

Nobody ever accused me of being uncoordinated or reckless either, they knew I just needed to hone my skills. Heck, I was just a kid growing up.

Yup.

Back when I was a kid, if you were at a friend's and misbehaved their parents would swat you. Then when you got home your parents would swat you as well. There wasn't any of this "I'm gonna sue you for abusing my child" crap. If you misbehaved you got swatted, even in school. And if you said a bad or dirty word within earshot of your parents you got your mouth washed out with soap.

I remember visiting my grandparents in rural SE Wisconsin during the summer. At night there would be these fogging machines on the back of trucks, slowly going down the streets fogging for mosquitoes. They put out a great volume of thick fog, and us kids would run behind the trucks right in the midst of it. I remember it smelled strangely pleasant, and somewhat oily. Kind of like a petroleum product. And it formed a stickiness on your exposed flesh. This was in the 50's, and who knows what they were using back then. Certainly not something considered EPA friendly these days!

And for all that we survived, prospered, and turned out OK. Imagine that!

The video reminded me of a time when I was free and fearless. No one ever locked their doors and we slept with the windows up in the Summer. My Dad told me one time that he couldn't make me learn anything while I was at school but he could see to it that I behaved my self. He never had to repeat that. Smile

Just having a little fun with your double posts, AJ. You know me.
I'm just old enough to have missed the "safety movement." I remember being about five and riding on the floor of my dad's Triumph. I was on the floor because he had a case of beer belted into the passenger seat. Some things are important.

George I don't why I'm having trouble with double posting. It has happened several times during the past few weeks. At first I thought I was actually sending the post twice but as it turns out I'm not doing that. The second post doesn't show up for maybe five minutes of the original posting on my computer. By that time the delete feature has expired and I can't get rid of the second post. There's a bug in my computer somewhere but so far I haven't been able to locate it. I was forced to download Windows 10 after swearing blind I'd never download another MS product. This problem of double posting started after it was downloaded. Forget about getting help from MS. It just couldn't possibly be their problem. Anyone have any ideas why this is happening and what to do about it?

Your dad just didn't want the beer to fall onto his favorite son while he was lying on the floor. I wasn't allowed to ride on the floor. I had to ride up in the rear window deck so I could be seen by my dad when he was driving. Had something to do with my habit of playing with matches. He frowned upon me building campfires on the floor in the backseat to roast the hotdogs he had just bought at the grocery store. Got my little butt tore up over that little adventure. Ron seems like most of those that have come after us were born without the necessary cajones. Besides they're too busy playing video games, texting, or streaming porn on their cell phones to care that their freedom and personal rights are being eroded day by day. By the time they wake up (if they ever do) they will find that they will be giving the Government 90% of their income, go to doctors that the Gov. appoints as their caretakers, and if they choose to pray they will have to do it facing Mecca. Evil or Very Mad

I'll keep most of my thoughts about the current state of affairs to myself lest this thread get bounced to the rubber room. Suffice it to say my concerns align well with those of AJ and Ron.

I guess I'm just glad my child rearing days are long over, I just couldn't imagine having to deal with the moron teachers and administrators, as bad as they are now apparently. I had regular run ins with them when my kid was coming up, they'd send him home with his head full of PC BS and propaganda and I'd make an appointment, raise hell with them and do my best to undo the damage they were doing. I guess I did ok my son is a stand up man who takes responsibility for his life and decisions. I'm proud of him.

No problemo amigo. You say whatever you need to say. Good to see folks telling it like it is.

Guess I thought that this might be a bit of a light hearted thread about the way it once was. And then again every generation has their own firm lock on that.

My folks did, and so do I. So it was intended to be a bit of what it was in the day I grew up. If that dates me then so be it.

Cheers,

RR

Taken after he shot his first can, *sniff*. I'm working on it haha. Chores for normal issues, and a spank if it's dangerous for now. He's just about five, and knows what manners and consequences are.
