PostSubject: Bespoke Askwith   Fri Oct 30, 2015 3:02 pm

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door
"'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door
Only this and nothing more."

Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak October;
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow; vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow sorrow for the Bulldogs of yore For the rare and radiant Collection whom the angels name Bulldogs of yore
Nameless here for evermore.
And the silken, sad, uncertain rustling of each purple curtain
Thrilled me filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;
So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating,
"'Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door
Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door;
This it is and nothing more."

But alas it was Mr Askwith rapping on my chamber Door but not with Bulldogs of yore. For he said that bulldogs of yore are never more. But cheer up and as good tidings I bring you a new Bulldog furthermore.

Ok enough cheeky bushiness and ripping off Poe. Getting back into pipe smoking last year I longed to have my Bent Bulldogs that I sold. As I could not find the same pipes I had to replace them with other ones. Here is the progress on the Askwith bent bulldog that I am having commissioned. This will make 4 in my seven day set.

I am looking forward to this pipe and future projects to complete my 7 day set.

It will be a black blast with blue cumberland stem. I just like dark stains with blue cumberland.

+1 I like that look a lot too. Askwith has been doing some mortas with brightly colored stems and they really pop.

Ah I see, it's a work in progress then. Yet the cumberland looks green to me.

I would say out of all the bespoke pipes iI have had over the years Chris Askwith has to be the easiest to deal with and Ian Walked right behind Me Askwith. It has been painless and he listened and gave suggestions on how to make the pipe better. It is not his fault that it took a year, my life fell apart in the middle of the process and had to pass on the first pipe he made for me. He allowed me to apply the deposits to this pipe even though I was expecting to loose the deposits after things got complicated. The pipe came out to 380 with the tamper. A very reasonable price for what he feels iis the most complicated of the classic shapes. If I could afford it I would have him make a 7 day set and leave it to him on the details. Unfortunately it is not in the budget.
