Interesting stuff. Is the stem on that pipe made out of a branch? I'm loving that box top!

Yuppers, oak, drilled, bent, then "distressed" then stained and finished...

Big pain in the butt to get it right..... But a pipe cleaner can pass from one end to the other, either direction. It threads into the bowl so it can be removed for easier cleaning.

The NW Native art is off the scale incredible. I lived in SE Alaska for 8 years and knew many tribal artists...and your work is quite on a par with anything made today.

I'm proud to call you a brother, bro.

(That design would be a fine one for a bas relief carving.)

Well, I appreciate your appreciation.........

Unfortunately, when I presented the package, the pipe was well received, yet the box was not.....

He was thinking of another type of Western Indian......

I said, "Let me guess, dot, not feather"... He agreed. He meant Western India Indian....

Who knew?

So, a new box, and he wants an octagon shape, so............

I cut down another cedar log........

Made a new box......

Aaaaaand, for some reason I can't post pictures tonight . Sorry guys........

Octagon!?! Good grief. Does he want it inlaid with little bits of glass and seashells too? When you open the lid is there supposed to be sitar music? Bah! Ingrate!

The cut up log....

After the milling, and now glued together....

Once it's set, then the black walnut edges go on, then sanding and finishing. Researching Indian Buddhist art work for the wood burning..

Right????

Well, what's a guy to do? At least I have a nifty smoke box. Though, now that I'm looking at the octagon, it's pretty sweet, even unfinished....

Yeah. I'm sure the Octobox will turn out to be a sweetheart.

It's just, when you're in the USA and say Indian...there are certain assumptions...pointing to Native Americans. When you're in the UK those assumptions are different...pointing to India & the sub continent. Guyshoulda been specific.

Well, I can't hold my misinterpretation of his meaning against him. English is such an ambiguous language anyway, and I'm sure it was my assumption that allowed the miscommunication to occur. I will try not to apply my own interpretations to future dealings, to be sure........

A real impressive job on that box sir and I have no doubt that you'll find someone very happy to take it off your hands. We'll have to see the other one when your finished with it. Wink

Oz, both look gorgeous mate, bet that stem was a real mongrel to shape. The etching on the box is fantastic too. A great set.

Cheers

I can't quite believe the guy didn't want that first box. It's excellent in all ways and really speaks to the Pac NW Native American Art. In fact it looks quite like it might have been produced by a native artist here in my area. Pity he doesn't want it!

Exclamation

Really nice work, Oz Wiz! Love the detail on that box lid. Have you finished the second one yet? I'd love to see the final result. -- Nevermind. Found it.
