Decided to break in my new Bruno Robalo pipe with some Ten Russians. I never had it before but i was going to put the new pipe into my English blend rotation and I knew it was a lat bomb so bombs away. I really love this blend. I just wanted to take a bite out of the beautiful crumble cake which breaks up nice and easy and packs perfectly. The smell in the tin is intoxicating. Smells like good BBQ, lots of smoke and a splash of ketchup. I went straight from tin to pipe, no drying. I like my tobacco on the moist side, others don't. Oh well. While i did get some gurgling near the end, it burned cool and stayed lit through most of the bowl. The flavor was an extension of the smell in the tin with a good amount of sweetness, almost an apple like sweetness flavor, like a cooked sweet apple that doesn't have any tart bite. Like imagine cooked apple mixed with the charred edge of a brisket. It's damn good even though the lat isn't as big of a player as I would expect, it really plays its part of the whole instead of taking over the stage. This blend didn't bite at all or leave any spicy heat in the back of my mouth. There is a bit of a nicotine hit but it's not as bad as HH Bold Kentucky or GLP Cumberland which are the only two blends I can remember giving me a head swim. I'm definitely going to need to stock up on it. With the other components playing such a big role in the flavor profile, I think this will age quite well even if the lat dies down it'll still be a great smoke.

I've been a big fan of those two for quite some time. With a little aging they are even better! Enjoy!

I'm a Captain Earle fan too, except my pick is Honor blend. BH put me onto this and it's been a winner! In fact the only one in the line that doesn't contain lat-weed!

Cool

Cheers,

RR

I like the Honor Blend as well.

I think my favorite from the latakia mixtures is Private Stock. Ten Russians is a pretty nice smoke if you really enjoy a smack to face with extra latakia-sauce.
