hey what dya hear what dya say!

Does anyone know when Wally Frank went out of business? I got an old Comoy's new in the Wally Frank box and I'm not sure when it's from. Was Wally Frank still open in 1980 after the cadogan merger?

I thought they were still in business !! The last pipe I bought from their mail-order catalog was around 1983 when I got a GBD Virgin Pot from them. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Does anyone know how to date this Comoy's? It doesn't have a Line name it just says Comoy's on one side with the Made stamp and v291. I've seen one poster on a forum say that the V prefix is Cadogan era, but I am not positive about that because it was the only place on the net I could find any mention of a V and it sounded like he might've been assuming. I've read that Three digit numbers are Pre-Cadogan, is that accurate? Does that include letters? What do you guys think?

I heard from and old friend who saw this thread, he's fond of The older Comoy's. I'll pass it on..

Hi Eric

Bugsahearn's asking about a Comoy-made pipe. It's a post-WW II Comoy,
without the stem logo or name on the shank so that some retailer could
put his own stampings on it.

The "V" is just a Comoy code (different letters for different intended
outlets).

Cheers

Hey AJ thanks! I checked the link but still couldn't date it other than post ww2.

Hey E, thanks for passing that on! Does your friend think it's a pre-cadogan pipe? I was thinking it was post because of the v but maybe I'm wrong. Perhaps it was made for Wally Frank?

You are missing a photo of two critical details: the C stem logo and how "Comoy's" is stamped. Can you do a shot of the other side and close-up of the stem logo? (camera phones do great close-up shots) Typically shape numbers with a letter are Cadogan era, but he info above will tell the tale.

That is the stamped C logo, so the pipe is Cadogan era, made after 1981. A good looking, classic British billiard!

Since it's not one of the "good. pre-Codogan" pipes I'm sure it won't smoke good enough for you so just send it to me and I'll smoke it as I have Cadogan era GBDs that I smoke all the time and you know what folks think about those !! Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

This a Cadogan era Comoy's Guildhall? I'm assuming it is. Paid 60 bucks for it, it's new. Too much or good deal?

I'd say $60 for a NOS Comoy of any age is a steal. Enjoy it in rude good health.
