O.K.

Got the covered wagon loaded, animals sheared, hares dressed and furs tanned and loaded. Woodwork that's finished are boxed, and some raw materials and simple tools for some pipes and carvings to make. Smoked meats, cheeses, eggs, and fresh bread for provisions. A full week's rotation of pipes and ten pounds of tobacco. Also various tools for hunting and fishing. Paper map and planned routes in hand, along with navcom updated.

So I guess I'm ready............ West it is............

In the morning.

I've got our seats at the pub all picked out! Keeping the seat warm and the Terminator Ale cold. Got a couple of goodies here for you to take back with you...if you make it over the pass that is.

Sounds exciting Wiz. Not sure how far west you plan on going, but if you do reach Blighty be sure to look me up and we'll share a bowl or two. Wink

Keep your weather eye to the horizon and stay safe.

You are one cool guy... I wish I could just follow you around your farm/homestead and absorb all of the information!

Anyway, enjoy your trip and don;t drink too much sake on the road...

Travel update..............

I would never have guessed that a 4 inch hose less than a half inch in diameter could empty the coolant system so fast. I was also taught that when doing so, it saturates everything under the hood(bonnet). This in turn makes it impossible to start the engine after replacing said hose, as the entire electrical system failed.

Huh...........

Sooooo, after a while of sitting on the highway shoulder, I opted to have the rig towed to a (closed for the holiday weekend) shop and have cooked some supper on the Coleman stove. I loaded a nice bowl of some high octane blend and a couple of rather warm Guinness with water chasers. I plan on working on checking over the electrical system tomorrow and see what happens. The tow driver said it might dry itself out overnight. I like his thinking!

So, I see the game is afoot, eh? Nothing like a good adventure. Could have just gone, nothing happened, did my schtick and that's it, another journey lost to obscurity. But now, now see, this will be a wondrous journey, full of adventure, and that stories will be told about.............

Excellent........

I blew up a VW Bus in the toll booth of the Bay Bridge in San Fransisco once upon a time. Had to push it off to the side and hike over to the Soul Food Cafe at midnight for a ride to Cupertino. Ah, youth.

Travels with Ozzie, and the wonders begin. WD-40 sprayed on and in the distributor cap used to work for me in such situations in the old days, but these newer vehicles may require something more sophisticated, though the principle seems the same. But they don't even have a distributor, do they? Better not listen to me; if you do, let the fumes dissipate a bit before turning the key. Good luck and all that. I can tell that you will eventually triumph and not descend into madness, even though the expression on your face indicates otherwise. Ah, the joys of the open road!

What's a distributor?

Just kidding. I know it's one housing downline from the flux capacitor which evens the torque of the electric motors. Jeesh. Everyone knows that.

It's a 1989 Toyota U-Haul(retired) ((Well, semi-retired)), so it is a Frankenstein fuel injection with a distributor... What they may have called a 'hybrid', in it's day.....

I figure with some Q-tips, high octane rubbing alcohol and some effort I'll get her going. Otherwise, the shop opens Tuesday.

No matter how hard I try, things will work out. (smirk)

Madness, Richard, is in the mind of the beholder.

Blackhorse, I never had a VW that had anything but a glorious death. They are special that way, particularly the air cooled rides. Yah know wadda mean?

Not the best start Wiz, but hey, it's all part of the adventure?

Adventure - something with an unknown outcome!

If anyone's going to turn it into a positive, it's you Wiz!

OW, sorry to hear of your incident along the trail. Antifreeze has a bad thing for plugs wires and such so if you can rinse it all down with clear water before it dries and then dry it out it may help.
Also, the WD-40 sprayed in the cap will displace the moisture in it and help you along.
I hope your able to get back on the trail to continue your journey soon sir, no fun being stuck with vehicle trouble anywhere. 5)

That was great! I love the classic 'toons of that day and age. No computers, just dozens of artists and thousands of individual cells being individually drawn and photographed. And then all linked up with the music and dialogue which was being recorded live while the screen images flashed so that the conductor could see them and direct the orchestra accordingly.

So very labor intensive, but in a lot of ways so superior to the modern way of doing things. I won't even get into the non-PC nature of a lot of them as they were a product of the day and age.

OK, I've further derailed this thread so lets get back on track. What's the latest update on your rig Ozzie? Guess I didn't realize previously that you were planning to drive this one. Not a journey that I'd like to do these days. Used to love long road trips. These days not so much.

But you're a git-er-done sort of guy, so I imagine you'll be back on the road in due course!

elephant <and here's a silly elephant for no reason at all>

Friggin' propylene glycol, man. Hope you didn't get any on your 'baccy or it will never dry out--that's the important thing. A new vehicle can be purchased for a paltry sum at any nearby car dealer, unlike tobacco. Brick and mortar tobacconists are roughly 734.5 miles from each other nowadays, by my calculations. Ya' gotta have your priorities right, then you can proceed with the tomfoolery.
