Somewhere out in the West there's a museum with this comment over the entrance:

"The cowards never left ... The weak died along the way ... Only the strong survived ... They were the pioneers."

Well, it seemed apropos. Good luck!

A great day of meeting new folks and reading up on truck systems. It now runs, albeit not well. The trooper that stopped to find out what I was up to in the parking area was rather helpful. We had some lunch and he produced a rather battered cob pipe. He was about to load it with Drum tobacco, and I handed him a my pouch of Calliope's Choice. He was astonished by the flavour, and we enjoyed an after meal smoke together. Before he left, he purchased a small Osage Orange pipe and 2 ounces of Calliope's, 3 of the BBQ blend, and a couple of ATBE.

I feel safer already!

He said he would talk to the shop owner for me tomorrow, and have them look the rig over for me ASAP.

So it seems, that sometimes it's not what you know, but who.

Tomorrow is another day, and another opportunity.

Look for me on the morning of the fifth day. Look to the East!

Knowing very little about the geography of the USA I decided to look up Laramie WY. It looks like you won't be going surfing today then Wiz?

If I never drive through the entirety of Wyoming ever again, it'll still be too soon...

Beautiful, and I mean absolutely beautiful country, but it's the New Zealand of the US. 500,000 people, 10,000,000 cows, and nothing from state line to state line....

Heading to Oregon in March, the second leg of our first day took us through the entirety of Wyoming, and while I'm thankful to see the state in it's early spring glory, I think I'm done with it. Shocked I didn't find anything but myself out there....

Been through Wyoming several times, once on my motorcycle back in '76. July it was too, with temps that'll make your eyes pop!

Desolate, yes absolutely. Including and especially the convoluted route I took on the bike - just to see the country as it were. Yet at the same time I found it strangely appealing.

Never got to Devils' Tower, or Yellowstone/Grand Tetons (pity that).

The lack of people and development for rather large stretches was captivating in a way I can't describe here. Perhaps that calls to my preference for peace and quiet as opposed to the hustle and bustle of more populated areas.

But for the lack of dramatic scenery in most of the state I'd move there in a heartbeat - well, that and the dreadful cold winters. Can't really handle that so much these days anymore.

It seems I've once again derailed a thread, so will now return you to your previously viewed channel and the adventures of Ozzie on the road!

silent

Good that your "on the road again" Wiz. And, making good progress. I like that "desolate country" a lot. I guess I am a desert rat at heart.

Where are you turning off I 80 and heading to Oregon?

Good to hear that you were stranded only temporarily. Funny how everyone dreads that type of breakdown, though we've all had them. I was once motoring east bound on I-90 in my '66 Chevy convertible when I heard a noise from underneath. I learned what it was some ways down the road when I tried to exit and found my clutch linkage had fallen off. The toll taker gave me directions to the nearest dealership. Somehow I managed to remember all the turns while shifting the standard shift with no clutch. They had the parts and put me on the road again in half an hour. Smooth sailing and friendly police officers to you the rest of the way.

Don't know how you're doing re finding wifi or whatever it is you need log in...but...

You might keep a weather eye out re predicted heat wave...on its way big time for this Saturday and Sundry. In short, if there's a choice re routes, etc., GO NORTH YOUNG MAN!

Portland is headed to a 5pm high of close to 100 F for Sunday and very close to it for Saturday.

Oh...and avoid Texas flooding of course.

Good luck on the highways and byways little buddy.

Made it to Huntsville, Utah, around 1700 hours. Got the first real meal in a couple of days. "Texas style BBQ". (shrug) Whatever they want to call it, it was fine. It seems my friend in Mormanland will not be able to accompany me on the last leg of my exodus. We stayed up late and discussed social, philosophical and ethical topics, laughed at ourselves and smoked our pipes. As it has been over 5 years since we had laid eyes on each other, it was good for my heart to see the cancer had not taken as great a visual toll as my mind's eye had envisioned.

So I am considering a short layover today. There is much to do here at his place that he was unable to get done during his treatment, and I would be the one to remedy that.

Thanks to you all for your comments and reveries. Yes, other than Medicine Bow and road construction there was not much to see on my route. I did stop by Little America, a glorified truck stop in the middle of the Wyoming moonscape... Very curious place indeed.....

Looks like you have a priority to fullfill in your journey Ozzie. And I'm reminded of the old phrase "a friend in need is a friend indeed".

That you chose to linger and lend whatever help you could administer speaks volumes. Good on you.

Gooooooooood mornin'!!!

Alrighty, enough silliness, time to get on the good foot and do the bad thing. Showered, shaved, wait, scratched, not shaved, and ready to roll.

A nice big bowl of Bagpiper's Dream and a french roast coffee is the starter gun.

 Next stop, Idaho..........
