Aye mate, watched it twice I did and the ol' sphincter pucked on both occasions! And that's very likely TMI, what?

That chap has more cojonies than brain cells say I. Hope he was wearing 2 sets of tighty-whities!

Sometimes it's hard for me to understand how a man could do such an insane act of stupidity. For a moments glory he risked his life. With the slightest miscalculation he could have about buried himself and for what? No way can anyone convince me that he understands how precious life really is. When one comes face to face with their own mortality and they are given another chance at life you become aware how dear and precious life is. It's sad that often some people believe they have to perform some ridiculous stunt in order to improve their lot in life and then find their efforts have been futile or worse case scenario they died in trying. Crying or Very sad

Sometimes you can live more in a few minutes time than some people live in a lifetime.

Yup...that is pretty crazy. Aside from the jump itself here's what I find crazy...

-His wife and 4 year old son attended the event, at his invitation, cheering him on. WTF? If he missed the net they would have had front row seating to watch him turn into a human pancake.

-Redbull sponsored it. So not only do they have license to sell their heart-attack in a can drink to kids, they also organize these kind of ridiculous events. And yet the FDA wants to attack and shut down our mellow and congenial hobby.

-In an article I read the guy goes on about how he's showing the world what humans are really capable of...like he's helping humanity somehow. Where and when is jumping out of airplanes without parachutes going to come in handy for us? Just use a parachute. That's why they were invented.

But for entertainment purposes...well done! 3 stars. I would have awarded 4 if he had the balls to do it in the nude.

lol! Puhleeze! The image rankles my gizzard!

Hey, the whole family is in the "trade." Who knows what motivational dynamic was in play? Plus I would imagine that he pretty much knew he could make it. Years of planning and experience, etc., from what I read. I'd rather be in his shoes than in some idiot's riding in a barrel over Niagara Falls.

well red bull does give you wings.....

but yeah I was bewildered to hear his 4 yr old attended, for a front row seat to see daddy turn into 30lbs of jam.

luckily he didn't, but I think it was more luck than judgment

as I said to a young nurse I knew once.

sometimes breaking into your room at night to watch you sleep is the only thing that silences the voices in my head....

funnily enough I didn't see her again for years

It's been my understanding the vid was taken down by the poster. I can't see it anymore. Can anyone else?

I've been reflecting a little on this for a few days now after reading with interest others' thoughts.

It seems that the perception of risk in such an activity doesn't sit well with some, which of course is natural.

My thoughts (FWIW) are that this is what this chap needs to do to truly feel alive. It may seem outrageously risky to the lay person but to him I'd imagine the risk was both manageable and acceptable.

To draw a comparison, to some rock climbing without a rope (soloing) is a reckless act. But it's all relative. An experienced rock climber will normally only launch himself at a rock climb that is well within his grade and ability. Yes, the rock could fail in some way (and it has in many cases) and the climber could be seriously injured or killed, but they would tackle this in the same way that your average person would walk up a set of stairs - although they're aware there's a risk of a stumble or fall that could lead to injury, it is considered highly unlikely. If you drive each day, cross the road, or ride a push bike on a public highway you're probably exposing yourself to a higher level of risk, but I'd wager these are considered an acceptable part of a daily routine.

So back to the chap in question. I'd wager he'll have rehearsed this many many times before, and prepared both physically and mentally. He'll have known, beyond all reasonable doubt that he could hit his target. He'll most likely have tested the netting. Reckless? Perhaps, perhaps not. Did he feel alive and elated at completing his challenge? Most likely. Did he pull it off? Yes he did.

Fair play to him.
