This client has a real love of open spaces. I was commissioned to 'do my thing' with a bunch of cedar they had cleared from their property. Fortunately they secured a portable mill for me.....

Sorry for the shading in the pics. As there is no electric run in the house, the ambient light played havoc with my cell phone camera. With some of the leftovers I made, yup, you guessed it, another octagon box.... People really dig these things!

Very nice! That red cedar is amazing stuff.

We were just down at Osage Beach and made a run to Sedalia, MO to pick up a bookshelf we had made of red cedar.

Cedar is a nice medium to work with, though the tannins tend to stand off a lot of finishes for a while. I understand it is considered an invasive species in these parts, so it is not frowned upon to cut them down. ( Though it appears there aren't a whole lot of tree huggers here) lol!

At any rate, yuppers, I like the feel of the place. The upper floor is where the bedrooms are, and when all the pieces are fitted around the walkway, tied into the vaulted parts of the ceiling, it will feel like you sleep in the forest canopy.

I got to show them how to use a drywall jack yesterday. The home owner planned on hanging the sheetrock himself and rented the lift, but no one showed him how to operate it. So I slapped a couple of sheets up for him to demonstrate the operation, and gave him a few tips, that he wrote down. Once the sheets were up and secured,(I call it "screwed up"), he put away his notebook and asked for an estimate for hanging and finishing the drywall. I gave him a per square foot price and went back to the handrails. I haven't heard back regarding the drywall work, but I hope I priced myself out of it! lol! This wizard is a bit old to be doing that size of house in 5/8" firewall. That stuff is a bear!
