Not sure Arky, but I'm pretty sure that Design Berlin use brass inlays in their pipes, mostly round the bowls.

To my knowledge most pipe makers use Silver, Nickel, brass and sometimes gold but, not copper.
I've used aluminum and brass myself, can't afford those other fancy metals. Sad

Seriously, I don't see copper as being a problem on a pipe if it's only used as a shank band or inlay in that general area.
There is no extreme heat there and if there was it would surely burn out with or without it. Highly polished copper can be very pretty as long as you can coat it with something to keep it from tarnishing too quickly IMO. Wink

Paul Menard from PaulsPipes.com has used copper on several of his handmade pipes, looks very nice.

Use it any dang place you want, I'd say. Just make sure to have plenty of polish on hand. 1937 Rolls Royce Phantom III Copper Sedanca Saloon, by Freestone & Webb:

I remember seeing pics from one very high end pipe maker that often used Copper in his pipes, cast, turned or whatever. Can't remember the name right now. Gorgeous stuff though.

I've used Copper both from plumbing parts, fittings,, etc. as well as rod and bar stock in making knives...handles, etc. It works and finishes very well.

I for one will be very interested to see just what Arky has in mind. Hopefully something that doesn't look like an opium or hash pipe.
