PostSubject: My father's pipe   Fri Jun 23, 2017 3:05 pm

I recently posted a pic of my dad's pipe with the stem in pieces; I just got it back from Mike Myers at Walker Pipe Repair in today's mail. Mike did a nice job replicating the old stem (particularly since he also had to make a new bone screw) and trying to find a color that approximated the original stem which was probably amber. I'm looking forward to firing it up, and to having Pop's pipe back in the rack. Here it is today, along with my grandfather's (his dad) watch, and a photo of Dad and his new roadster on his and Mom's honeymoon in 1929 (but with a cigarette, not a pipe)...

A Tucopsian how ya' doin'? Interesting pipe and very cool photo. It's reassuring knowing that there are still people around who can do that type of work. In related vein, does that watch work? I just had my grandfather's similar watch resurrected, for about $300. Hadn't run since 1952, I believe. Nothing wrong with it--they just get gunked up from sitting unused for years, and require disassembly, cleaning, and adjustment. The pipe resurrection, I hope, didn't sting as much. Happy nostalgic smoking.

Thanks, and yup, she still keeps great time.  About a 6th of that to bring the old briar back to life; not too painful, and worth every penny to me.

That's a real beauty sir!
Glad you able to save it because so many times these things are not thought of anything and tossed a side or worse.
I hope it smokes well for you and you can get something good out of smoking Dad's ole pipe. Wink

As befits his moniker, the wisdom from the Ozark Wizard has expressed it all so perfectly I need not add to it.

OK, let me just stress that the pipe is indeed beautiful and add that there will be some special moments smoking it thinking about just how many moments your dad enjoyed it during his own special moments. A special bonding of father and son, for certain.

A glorious restoration well worth cost and time involved, although the stem is new to the pipe, and you, the bond it, and you, will share is priceless.
