I purchased just the briar portion from eBay for $4.00 and made the stem. The stem material is Ebonite which I hand cut and made it look Lovat style, a fairly wide comfortable saddle stem.
Just took the pipe on its first voyage and smoked H&H Butternut. The pipe smoked this blend perfect. I've always had a soft spot for any KB&B pipe. The briar has a nice grain with no fills, only reflections from the lighting in my room. Just wanted to share this little " CHEAP " beauty with ya'll.

PS, I forgot too mention the pipe is from the '50's

Rebirth of a classic! Really dig the old KB&B stuff. The stem work is spot on too. I hope you enjoy many fine smoke in it LC.

UPDATE

Since the restore I've smoked this pipe 5 times. Was not an expensive pipe but it's well aged briar! Also because of the diameter of the chamber it smokes my Burley Blends & Flake like a dream.  Don't have to spend allot to get a good smoker. This pipe was made by KB&B back when ALL their briar was aged well.

I prefer a diameter of 7/8" on the chamber over 3/4" on most of my pipes. But, every pipe smoker has different preferences.

Some of the new pipes made in Italy now state" briar aged for 2 years ". What's that all about???

Ted you did a fine job on that pipe. About briar being aged 2 years: Obviously that was written by someone who has never smoked pipe made from 100 year old aged briar or they would have realized how ridiculous their statement was. Smile
