Arky, you chose a great combination of wood to work with and the bowl is a beauty. Post more pictures when you have time. Working with wood is both rewarding and relaxing, use to be my philosophy.
You can choose 2 different woods and make 3" x 3" blocks, use a real good wood glue to bond together and clamp all around, let dry for 24 hours and the bowl would look like a checkerboard when turned on your lathe. But I will advise you to purchase a full face plastic shield just in case a block comes lose from a poor bond. I always used a full shield when working with a lathe, not just eye protection!

KEEP ON PUFFING!!!

Laughing Thought something bad happened, Arky, with your "lamented" turning. You must mean laminated, right? Lamenting is what you do at a funeral. Or pretend to.
