How much can it run? I donít understand the question.

The easiest way to illustrate a kilowatt hour is to use the example of a 100 watt lightbulb:

One kilowatt hour of energy is equal to 1,000 watt hours or the equivalent of lighting a 100 watt light bulb for 10 hours.

(100 watts x 10 hours = 1,000 watt‐hours = 1 kWh).

You should be able to expand that to 10 kw by saying it would light the 100 watt bulb for 100 hours...or ten 100 watt bulbs for 10 hours.

So youíll be putting the power into storage batteries, right? That seems to be the important link.

So what and how much you can run depends on your storage capacity and how much flow you have from the battery to your home electrical system.

If this stuff isnít set up right your whole place could go up like a phosphorus tip match! You need guys with hard knowledge advising you on this Arky...not us.

Black Horse is right Arky, you're basically charging a huge capacitor, one wrong move and A.) You burn your house down. B.) You get zapped bad enough to make your heart explode and become soup. Or C.) You get zapped bad enough to make your heart explode and become soup while you stay grounded resulting in burning your house down. My brother in law is an electrician I'll ask his thoughts for you.

I could swear we have discussed this at length Trav.

It's not a matter of panels, or their power, it's a matter of you're bank, I.e., series of batteries and capacity of your converter/inverter. You also want a charge regulator and shunt for when your system has reached capacity. Also, you need to mindful of your sine wave. Most inverters you can grab off the rack are square sine. That can work in a pinch, but your appliances and such will want a 'wave'. They are gentler and what your home electrical systems are designed for. Think alternating current, like analog recordings vrs digital.

When you decide on a system, you want to know if you plan on a 24 volt or 12 volt system. That will determine the type of inverter and power delivery system you wish to employ.

Might I suggest you consult any numbers of solar power retailers in your area to give you a free appraisal. Yes, they will want to sell you theirs. You might want to entertain that thought rather than blow yourself up. Each to their gifts, mi amigo!

My neighbor down the street put his house on full solar power last year and the folks that he got to do the install work and who he bought his equipment from did all the numbers for him. Check with the folks that your buying your panels from and see what they can do number wise for you. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil
