PostSubject: Beware of strange emails   Fri Nov 24, 2017 12:47 pm

This morning I received an email that said my package was on the way.
I didn't recall ordering a package but there was a link that provided shipping information.
Since i was BC (Before Coffee) I clicked on the link and automatically clicked on open.
Actually I just depressed the mouse button and was afraid to remove my finger.
After a few moments of silent cursing there was nothing left for me to do.
Thankfully my antivirus software stepped in and removed whatever I had downloaded.
My concern was that someone used my credit card number to order an item.
If I had been more careful I should have checked the email address.
Never the less, after reading the email I wanted more information and might have gotten into trouble.

During this time of great deals and holiday shopping we should all be aware strange emails.

I have been getting regular email about my Amazon shipments being delayed.

They want to confirm info. I don't order through Amazon. And the return email addresses are not from Amazon.

Beware!

Yeah. I get stuff saying my cancelled Amazon purchase has a problem every now and then. Right.

Just click on the address of the sender. If itís a direct Amazon thing the address shown will obviously be one from Amazon. If itís not from Amazon the address will be screwy...foreign source, odd jumble of alphanumeric jibber jabber, etc. The same holds true for other senders as well. If itís really from MSN or T Mobile or whomever, it will be obvious.

Good to know, simple test.

Another popular one I get about every 3 months or so if from our friendly neighborhood FBI. The email doesn't originate from a government server so its bogus as all get out. I've opened it for shits and grins......its full of threats to put me in jail and seize all my assets for colluding to launder money from Nigeria, Lebanon or one of several other questionable countries. I simply forward these on to my local FBI office with a note telling them to have fun with these guys. I actually got a reply once with just a smiley.

Donít even click on these things to open them. Doing that can allow the download of malware to your system!

I will admit to opening one of these suspicious e-mails while I was also under the BC (before coffee) mode. Fortunately it didn't result in anything untoward. Lesson learned.

Suspect everything and trust nothing, has been my mantra since then!

Exclamation

Cheers,

Dave, you are absolutely right DO NOT click on these things ever!!!!!!! It should be noted that when I do this it is an old surveillance system I picked up for next to nothing. It had a tiny hard drive and 4 DVD writers. No loss if anything happens to it Lol.
