I used this in my World Regions, Europe class today.

http://www.onemotion.com/flash/spider/

Guys loved it, several ladies screamed, it was kind of fun. I'm trying to replace the background (Europe) map so I could use the spider as a "pointer" for any map I want.

Thinking back, for me at least it was the teachers who imparted a passion for learning through using slightly offbeat, or different methods to grab my attention that mattered most. I graduated in 1979 and had been to 8 different schools in various communities in those years (we moved frequently). It remains those teachers who 'dared' to step out of the mold that I remember today. Many of these fine men and women have since gone on the the 'big classroom'.

A younger brother of mine taught for many years in a small public school in Upstate, NY and is now in his second year at The Emma Willard School. He has also a been passage selector for the New York State Education Department for the last eight years. He didn't get there thinking 'inside the box'.

Whatever they pay teachers of the next generation of Americans, its NEVER enough IMHO.
