I would note that there has been a down tick this year in auction and sales values (including S.Fallon's public sales) on most tins, especially the Dunhills - due it seems to the general economic downturn - but GLP tin values have remained steady if not risen over many of last year's averages. |

| That is an amazing compilation, Kap. Thanks for doing it! I was shocked by the record high for Bohemian Scandal late last year. A 2oz tin sold for over $180. The high for Stonehenge seems to have been ca. $122. It's hard to believe, but there it is. I'm flattered, of course. Now, if only I could figure out how to get a piece of the action. -glp |

Thanks Greg. I will periodically post values on tin runs (yours and others of general interest) on this site as they change over the coming year. I started keeping track of auction / trade / sale values (my own and others) early last year, and have built up quite a spreadsheet of over 400 different individual 'collectible' tins. Since it is primarily for my own use in support of my own cellar/collection and buying/trading/selling transactions, it is not scientific (i.e., it does not follow the correct statistical formulas for tracking auction/market prices as is done with art or antiques and such like for the purpose of appraisals) but these numbers do give us a ball-park figure of what is going on among tin-swappers at the moment.
As far as 'getting a piece of the action', I would say keep doing what you are doing - the universe is bound to oblige.
Cheers! |

| In a recent auction a tin of Scandal sold for $127. I find it interesting that these prices are now on par, and at some times surpasses the price of old Balkan Sobranie, both Original and 759.
I recently sold a tin of Scandal for $65 bucks, and felt guilty that I was making a profit! |

| Kapnismologist, thanks for the post. I was lucky enough to amass a lifetime supply of Renaissance (assuming I'll be able to smoke a pipe until I'm 75 and that I don't consume more than one 2 oz tin a month) which I will never sell. (Never say never...) I am also sitting on a large stash of the first run of Haddos Delight, the one with the misspelled Virginia on the label (sorry for bringing it up, Greg). Those, which I only smoke occasionally, I may let go one day...

| Hey, even a stopped clock is right twice a day... Hitting home runs is a numbers game. Greg just spends twelve hours a day dumping fistfuls of tobacco in a 5 gal paintbucket, stirs it around, and if it's good gives it a name. So far 40 have worked out. That's all there is to blending. Really. Try it and see. (So I've been told by countless pipe smokers over the years, anyway. Just passin' it on. ) |

| There's another great aspect to this post... this is so much more heart-warming and comforting than looking at the DOW average every day... |

| While there is one of Greg's blends that I like very much and a few that I find very good, and have stocked up on my favorite a bit. At those prices I sure am glad they are not my favorite all day smoke. |

| Kapnismologist,
Do you know if the 2001 Tribute was the original "dove" production and the 2002 was the USS Nassau LHA-4 version by any chance? I've got tins of each and was wondering when they went from one label design to the other.

2001 was the dove.
2002 and USS Nassau was inspired by Nassau's skipper, a member of ASP until he put her to sea on some extended operations. Russ Boukema is the name that comes to min. |
