I suspected that this may have been going on, great to see that it is indeed true! Too bad so many campuses are going smoke-free, maybe enough young people will stand up and put a stop to it.

Of course I noticed the article had to have the obligatory health concerns because it's tobacco. Funny how we never hear that smoking a J gives you cancer, I guess tobacco is the only thing that is dangerous when lit on fire.

I'm pushing hard on making a few of my friends (who smoke cheap cigars) into pipe smoking because i feel they are missing out on quality tobacco and just a relaxing past-time.

Being a younger pipesmoker draws a lot of attention and i feel i'm turning some heads in the right direction... pirat

That younger people are choosing the pipe to a cigarette can only be a good thing, and the fact that the press, is sitting up and taking notice can only help. As someone once said, "There is no such thing as bad publicity".

By the way Irene, Love that hat in your Avatar, they're called Flat Caps here, I've got several of them. !!!

Thanks for the great read! I started puffing in college too, but mainly to look different in a cool and sophisticated way and thereby facilitate a means and ways to pick up chicks. Now look where it's got me...

PS I can't believe I just said "chicks."

The article brings out a good point:

We're ADULTS. We UNDERSTAND THE RISK.

Yes, I risk an oral cancer and periodontal disease. Look, NannyState, DEAL WITH IT. I've weighed the risk. It's not as outlandish as my weight, it's not as outlandish as non-monagamous exchange of bodily fluids these days.

Have to warn everyone: I will not even discuss if I own extended quantities of tobacco. The modern Socialist Nannies who govern us, I am convinced, will try to confiscate what we own. If I own any is my own bloody business Wink I don't want ATF doing the door on me.

I wanted to add a little more to this discussion, if I may.

I went to Knox Cigar yesterday to buy some tobacco. The sad thing is, since they don't do internet sales anymore they are stocking less tobacco. The good thing was, there was a table in the middle of the store with items 50 percent off, including several blends. So I picked up a few.

While I was in the store, a young guy...looked to be in his early 20's...came in with his girlfriend (or wife, or sister...I know not which) and told the man behind the counter that someone had given him a pipe as a gift, that he was a complete newbie, and wanted to try it out...and could he get some suggestions?

Well, the clerk immediately began showing him some different blends, and I'm sure he got something good. I was checking out, so I didn't see exactly what he settled on, but my heart was lifted at this!

One kind of humorous note: I overheard the young lady who was with him say "this is like being in a candy store!"

Maybe she'll get started as well.

I left the store with a smile on my face. cheers

Mike
