Filling Escudo into a pipe, duh... Empty
PostSubject: Filling Escudo into a pipe, duh...   Filling Escudo into a pipe, duh... EmptySat May 23, 2009 10:25 pm

I just've never smoked medallions before, ok?

Just opened my first tin of Escudo. I folded the pepperoni into a ball, packed in with the air pocket method and then tidied it up without pushing it too far or too sternly down the bowl. Is this an effective way of filling Escudo into a pipe? It seemed to smoke fine, but since I've never smoked the Portuguese coins before, maybe I'm missing something. Any learned suggestions/instruction will be appreciated.

I often do what you just described (in a Tinsky cavalier). I also sometimes fold it. You make like a mastercard symbol and fold it over until it fits into your pipe. You really cant go wrong with this tobacco, so experiment until you find your preference.

I will warn you that Escudo tins don't last long at my house...

Both of you make a lot of sense - both the usual methods and also experimenting with new ones. BTW I paid for the Escudo with my Mastercard, so perhaps I should do the mastercard symbol method first. The way it tastes, it won't last long in my house either. Just so many medallions in one little tin. But I've found that with my method I'm getting a hot spot, so I'll do it more carefully next time. Thanks both.

I've been smoking Escudo for a long time and basically I do the same you do. The old tins used to recomend a technique pretty much like ours.

The thing with Escudo is to keep it smoldering slowly and quietly, else it bites. The less you break down the coin, the slower it's going to burn. The slower it burns, the cooler it smokes.
