These pics were snapped a few seconds apart. They are unedited in any way. What you see is exactly what I saw.

Twist: It was a cloudless sunny day. Really.

How can that be?

My guess is some sort of fire or high winds blowing snow banks?

Look like snow snakes to me. Just strong winds coming off the plains.

Yep. A so-called "ground blizzard." Twisted Evil

That one was a few years ago at mile marker 267 on I-80 in Wyoming. Known as Elk Mountain to the locals (and guys like PB)

70 mph steady wind w/90 mph gusts. Lifted enough snow from the surrounding ground that a 30-40 foot layer above the ground was a white-out hurricane. Above that it was crystal clear.

(A running joke in Wyoming is that the snow never melts, it just wears out.)

Some pretty wild pics nonetheless. We'd be freaking out crashing all over the place if that happened down here in the south!

It almost looks like something from 'Storm Chasers'. Here in North Georgia, we get horrendous snow storms, sometimes delivering as much as 6 inches of snow over night ... y'all come! cheers

Despite being from North Dakota, I have got to go with ground fog. Wiper shows, so we have moisture, and no snow showing on hood or ground, so not blowing snow (we have a little familiarity with that in Canada too). So i go with the hot sun cooking the wet ground to give you "steam" (ground fog) and it being blown across the road.

We had a rather dramatic case of sudden fog here not too long ago, with rather tragic and dramatic effects. [Sept. 1999 multiple deaths, mostly by being trapped in burning cars, over 60 vehicles involved, 8 dead I think] You want to get off the road as soon as you can and hope someone doesn't plow into you. I take it you safely made it through this.
