Does any one have one in the family or friendship circles?

What do you you it for?

Downsides? Upsides?

Yup, they are pretty cool all the way around. I even lowered my monthly cell bill by about 25 bucks from when I had a blackberry.

This is eerie how much we have in common. I too need to replace my I-pod and and trying to decide if I want the touch. The problem as I see it for those that use the I phone as a music player is that it drains battery quickly requiring charge, so after the gym those with IPHONES need to borrow my phone which does have MP3 capabilities but is not used because I have a dedicated IPOD (or had).

Also, I am not on AT&T. Haven't quite commited to the touch or the classic yet.

Long story Puffs........

Basically I down graded from a $250 (when new)Samsung do everything superduper, mp3playing, tv watching, emailin phone, so the Mrs could upgrade...

Work pays the Blackberry's internet bill..

So I'm stuck with an AT&T 'free Nokina' and a BB... Momma gets an iPhone.... Funny how that stuff works huh..

Battery power is a definite concern but I get a few hours of music play out of mine, that and I get Pandora which is great and free.

We got one for our 7 year old for his birthday last August. A lot of people criticized us for getting it for him because he is only 7 and how he is spoiled and what not, etc, etc.

We looked at it this way; he didn't have any video game systems (at the time, we got a Wii the following Christmas though as a family gift), and he had a Nintendo DS which he loved to death but had very limited games ($30-50 bucks a game is a bit steep). His Mom and I both had iPhones which at every given chance he would snag and listen to music on or play games. We purchased the 8 GB version for him and we swear to this day that it was the absolute greatest investment EVER for him. It gets so much use and he has a pretty much unlimited supply of free games he can download anytime (with our parental control obviously, plus we locked out the web browser). I copy his favorite DVDs using Handbrake (a free tool that you can download online) to convert movies for iPod/iPhone. He uses it for music, games, movies, calendar, maps, weather, etc. It's an invaluable tool at his disposal at any given moment.

That's my $.02. Very Happy

Oh great! In that case I would highly recommend it. Just let his parents know about the parental controls that are available on it under the settings. They can prohibit the use of certain functions (like the internet) and password protect it. I'd recommend a hard plastic case for it, which has saved my sons on many occasions.

It's been a Godsend on long road trips. He absolutely loves it. Gets more use than any of his other toys, plus there are educational games that can be downloaded/purchased as well.

Any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. Smile
