Now this is very sad. He was an icon. Wasn't he voted the "Most Trusted Man in America" once upon a time?

I believe so Carlos, he certainly delivered the Viet Nam war to our living room every night. Imagine his relief though when he doesn't have to witness anymore what CBS has become and what Katie Couric has done to it.

I do miss the days when it was about news and principles and not fluff and ratings.

Get well Walter ...

He is truly great! I loved his tv documentary show 20th Century/21st Century. I watched it every week with my dad. Too bad tv journalism today is not like it was then. Cronkite has integrity.

Cronkite, Huntley, Brinkley, Murrow, Pyle. All men of integrity the likes of which this sad world will probably never see again. They built a powerful legacy and it was handed to men undeserving of it. Crying or Very sad

Another for the file: "As Seen on TV" product pitchman Billy Mays has died. Perhaps not as famous/influential, but still a shame. He was a good showman, and OxyClean does work every bit as well as he said.

Next to Charles Kuralt, Walter Kronkite was about the only news caster I've ever listened to regularly. When Walter's time is up, I hope he goes peacefully and without pain.

I don't know how much of a celebrity he is but it sounds like Billy Mays died today. You know the infomercial guy?

Yes, I already knew about it by reading Doc Manhattan's post at 12:36pm in this thread.

Thanks anyway.

I remember that show. She also was a singer. She had one hit (which I can't remember the name of) in the fifties.

She had early renditions of "I Hear You Knockin"" and "Memories Are Made of This" on the hit lists in the late 50's, very early 60's. Don't think most of us even knew it was her singing!! FTRPLT
