PostSubject: Music-box lighters   Fri Jul 03, 2009 7:37 pm

I was looking through my grandparents' house--discovering little bits of family history--and I found four or five lighters that doubled as music boxes. The little key on the side could be wound up to play a song, and the top (which pops completely out) is a flint/naptha lighter. My grandmother smoked cigarettes for decades, so lighters are not a huge surprise, but these seemed pretty unusual.

This one in particular may be of interest to you Sons of the South:

(Naturally, it plays "Dixie" when wound up.)

Were these lighters common at some point? Maybe not as practical pieces, but as souvenirs? Google and eBay didn't turn up much, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.
