We're not going anywhere. I'll play a little golf. I also have season tickets to the Edmonton Capitals baseball club, an independent league with teams in Utah, Calgary, Victoria and few other places. Otherwise just puttering around the house.

I used up my five paid days off this spring on a short trip to the inlaws. Can't afford to take any time off without pay.

Yeah, people still do take vacations; though the definition may have changed a little. Vacation here in the lower "48" usually meant a one or two-week summer trip to somewhere or a winter trip skiing. Now folks may stay closer to home or take shorter trips to save a bit of $$$.

We tend to vacation/take trips in the spring and fall, with the obligatory two-week (or more!!) Christmas trip on the east coast visiting family and friends. We have to plan around our respective work schedules. We will be spending a long, wonderful week on the North Carolina Outer Banks in October; sharing a big 5 BDRM house with family. cheers FTRPLT

Well I work so hard, I rarely plan ahead. So here I am on my first week off not knowing what to do. I need to check my budget to see if I can take a small trip to San Antone or Austin. But it feels good to be able to just rest.

Hell, I am not sure where I wanna go.

I was just off last week. We took a day trip to Cooperstown Ny,
Baseball hall of fame...was great. The rest of the week spent here
doing yardwork and lots of relaxation. Very Happy

My wife, daughter and I have taken three family vacations in the last 18 years, but the last one to Broadway was worth the wait. As I only get paid for 9 months a year, summers are kind of lean, even if I can teach a summer school class for a few extra bucks.

But I do go off backpacking and canoe camping for a week or two every other year, and several long weekends of packing locally every year. But that's not a vacation, it's very important adjusting my attitude to life and recharging my batteries time. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

However, my research area is international tourism, so I've been paid to spend time in new, wilderness parks in Bolivia designing trails, or giving lectures on tourism development in Brazil and Belize. I know, you guys really feel sorry for my difficult assignments, but although it's a tough job, some one has to do it.

Jo and I do a lot of camping. We spent most of last week up in the mountians of Western NC. Hard to beat economically, usually at $20 and under per night. There are a lot of nice campgrounds out there and it is a great cheap way to see the country!

I took my first real vacation in years last month. I went to the Outer Banks and spent four days. It was wonderful. Many hours of sitting at the pier watching the sail boats bob at their moorings while enjoying a bowlful or a good cigar did wonders for my disposition. Of course then, it was back to work. Damn!

Going to spend some time next month in Wisconsin,State Fair and the Door
County peninsula enjoying Lake Michigan.Cherry season there, will come home
with lots of produce.
Interesting fact, during WW2 German POWS were interred in the area and did
a lot of farm work, all our men were in the service. Some of those POWS came
back to Wisconsin after the war and settled there they liked it so much.

I used to run cycle tours of Door County, great place to bike. Have a double-dip chocolate cone at Wilson's for me (just outside Peninsula State Park). They came up with the brilliant idea of putting a jelly bean in the bottom of cone to block any melting ice cream from leaking out the bottom.

That's what we do is rent bicycles and ride the trail in Peninsula State Park.
It's amazing how clear the water is in the lake up north, around the city of
Chicago it's greenish.

Hotter-n-hell here too, but you've got me thinking back to the mid 70s through the mid 80s when I ran week long cycle tours through Door County. We always stayed at least one night at Peninsula State Park. Increadable cycle trails through the woods and along the shore. Cool breezes off Greenbay, stop and jump in if hot. Over almost a dozen years of being a guide, only two injuries on my cycle tours, and one was in PSP. Early morning ride, a couple of teenage boys came screaming down a bit of a hill in the park, turned a blind corner, and there were several deer, heads down, standing on the trail but feeding on the grass next to it. The buck in the rear raised his head just as our lead cyclist jumped off trail and tried to blast past him. Antlers snagged his thigh, flipped him off his bike. They were moving fast and quiet and I don't think the deer ever heard them coming, and by the time they raised their heads it was over! Three stitches in the leg and some scrapes and bruises, but what a story to tell your friends! Wish I was going with you.

I just returned home from a trip to Sweden to learn more about pipemaking. I visited Love an Sara Geiger there. They are wonderful people who make gorgeous pipes. You can see the fruit of our labour at http://web.me.com/claessenpipes

Yep, I do.

I usually take some time off work around Christmas (right when school is finished as well) and head out for some skiing with friends. I try to do something at Reading Week as well, usually with my Dad, Uncle, and Cousin.

As of last night at 10:30, I'm off for 10 days. I leave for Las Vegas on Monday. As for now, I'm going out to play a round of golf, then off to the lake tomorrow for a bit. Sunday I'm packing, Monday heading to the airport for 3pm. Very Happy

Monday evening, I'll light up on the strip, and not stop for a week! Thank God I'm old enough to buy tobacco in the U.S...haven't quite figured out the alcohol yet though! lol!

I work as much as possible during school, and since I'm so busy, my expenses are very low and I can put enough money away to afford to get away.
