Can't blame this one on SCHIP: A man in Manchester, NH used his debit card to buy a pack of cigarettes, only to discover he'd been charged 23 quadrillion dollars for the pack (plus a $15 overdraft fee, just to add insult to injury.)

The punchline of the original article: "Bank of America tells WMUR-TV only the card issuer, Visa, could answer questions. Visa, in turn, referred questions to the bank." Apparently, even if you're a bank, the buck doesn't stop with you.

Call me old fashion, but paying $15 for an overdraft of $23,148,855,308,184,500 seems like a deal I'd take, smokes or not.

"Sir, what is your limit for cash back?"

I'm thinking if that happened to me and I knew of course the charges would be reversed, the bank probably wouldn't notice a couple hundred grand extra buried in there...woulda been a great time to put a new pony in the stall.

What I don't understand is how that transaction was allowed to clear, that's like more money than there is in the entire world. Some serious glitch in the system.

Dang, if I ever charged anything over 100 bucks, I'd get a call from the company to make sure everything was okay. This guy must have some damned fine credit. After this is fixed, I hope he charges a Harley or something.
