I was listening to Colin Cowherd on ESPN radio. He was mentioning that a stripper in NYC was telling how she had the best sex with A-Rod and hoped that Madonna was experiencing the same. Colin Cowherd said if he had a bottle of bourbon, he could perform as well as A-Rod.

Does bourbon have powers like viagra?

It also keeps me from rolling out of bed in the middle of the night Smile

I've never noticed bourbon making my performance better, but I could be doing it wrong. Maybe you're supposed to dip your A-Rod in rather than drink it scratch

I actually was inspired to go to my local ABC store and try some Bourbon from this thread. At the proprietor's recommendation, I tried something called Eagle Rare. Wow! Really, good... very sweet, a little complex... I might not miss Scotch if this is all I had to drink in the way of whiskey.

Anyone familiar with Eagle Rare?

Well, our communist ABC stores actually are allowed to carry the stuff. There's some up at the ABC in Wake Forest, anyway.

You're learning, they are communist!............I still can't get a decent rye. They even stopped carrying Wild Turkey Rye. I have tried to get them to carry Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye but the best they will do is order me a case and I have to pay for it up front. A case cost nearly $500. I don't think I can justify it.

Yes, I drank a bottle of it early in the summer, not all at one sitting of course. It was very good, and was on sale for $23 if I remember correctly.

Elijah Craig is another one that is very good.

Certain liquors not available ( N.Carolina or VA)? I guess I don't understand the regulations down there and I'm really curious. Do the laws or regulations govern what brands or type of liquor can be sold? Or how much on a quantity basis? Are these laws local regulations or state ? Or is it an availability issue like they can't get certain liquors because their distributor doesn't handle them? Any "dry counties" down there?

Liquor in NC is state controlled by an alcohol board and they determine what we can and cannot purchase. Liquor stores are not private here. If we want a better variety we have to drive to SC. We still have entire dry counties here. The county that I grew up in is still dry and we use to have to cross the Yadkin River over to the next county to buy alcohol.

I scratched my head trying to figure out the "communist ABC store" concept. That's one more thing I guess I take for granted where I live.

Still, on the balance, I like NC much better than my home of the last 33 years - NY, liquor regulations not withstanding.

I really have not tried any of the high end Bourbons. They are not in my budget
I am very content just sipping either Wild Turkey 101 or Maker's Mark.

WT 101 is a classic bourbon. Fortunately it is not high priced but many of the " high end" bourbons don't even come close to it. I have 15 to 20 bottles of bourbon opened at any one time in my house (another one of my "hobbies") and you can bet that one of them is always WT 101. WT Rare Breed is another. Both outstanding.

I revisted an old cheap favorite recently and man did I stumble onto a gold mine! I have been drinking Old Crow. We use to buy it becasue it was the cheapest with no real regard for the flavor but after drinking a couple of half gallons lately it has become my favorite. Like Tennessee Dave said it ain't got to be high end to be good. I really like this stuff and the price is a bonus at $14.95 per half gallon. Besides it is the original sour mash whiskey that Dr. James Crow brewed when he invented the sour mash process in 1825 at the Old Oscar Pepper Distillery. How much more Americana can you get than that?!

The last time I drank Old Crow whiskey was 1966,I was arrested and spent some
time in the brig for disrespect to a non commissioned officer and drunk on base. Mad

Maybe you need to revisit it now that you have matured and won't feel like you have to challenge the law. Very Happy

I'm partial to Sailor Jerry's Rum (with Jim Beam as an old standby). I've wanted to try something new recently so I might go for the Old Crow or WT101 per the recommendations here.

Both are very good IMHO but Old Crow is much easier on the pocket book. I actually like it better than WT anway.

Well I tried the Old Crow, got a bottle for watching the election coverage drunken . I thought it was everybit as good as Jim Beam, and at $9.00 for a 750ml bottle, it's very affordable. I may have found a new bourbon.
