PostSubject: Searching For A Pipe Case   Sun Oct 11, 2009 3:23 pm

I'm in the market for a large,7 to 10 pipe, case/bag. One I can put my pipes, tobacco, and everything else I need in. I currently have a couple of smaller ones for about 4 or 5 pipes, but once I put pipes in I'm left with no room for tobacco, lighters, and accessories. Just wondering if any one has any suggestions or recommendations that will help me out.

That's amazing! I thought the only pipe bags came from Europe such as what is in the Dan Pipe catalogue.

Hey Doug,

Dan Pipe sells KU Design and Weiss leather bags. While decent enough, none can really touch Smokin Holsers quality.

I've actually seen one in person Hank. A JT Cooke collector brought one to the NY show a couple of years ago. I looked it over well and was totally unimpressed. The overall look of it was just sorta cheap and unprofessionally made. Bag for bag it doesn't hold a candle to Neil's Ultimates....

I own a smaller 2-pipe bag from Neil. Ball-glove outer, buckskin inner, and black water buffalo lacing on the outer edges. Five years old, daily use, at least another five years of life in 'er. Great investment!

It's become a fashion accessory for me at work.

Thanks Doc. I value your advice and will probably match your bag, eventually.

If you're like me it's hard to imagine spending that much on a nice pipe, much less a bag to caryy 'em around in. I have a Castleford 4 pipe bag that serves me well and was about 30 bucks. If you need more room than that, try looking at messenger bags at MalWort or some such store and put the pipe bag in there along with a few tins, cleaners, lighters, tampers and whatever else you may need in your man-purse (as my wife lovingly calls mine).

Not knocking the linked bags, they're just out of the price range for some of us.

There was a similar thread on another forum a while back, & several pipers had hard plastic cases from
"Pelican". they offer a bunch of sizes & colors, you can order with or without foam, which gives the option of custom cutting your own pockets. Personalty I like the 1200 series.

I sat down with Carlos for a smoke at the Chicago Pipe Show
and he whipped out one of those plastic gun cases with the foam
padding.I was a little nervous until he opened it and brought forth
a nice Crosby. Shocked

Yeah, I was gonna say, many of us just use clean gun cases (remember that all guns have a thin layer of oil, so make sure it's one that has never had a gun in it). John Crosby even ships his pipes in such a case. this is the ultimate protection for a pipe, but I do get nervous looks when i walk into a pub with a gun case.
