I'm gonna be in Atlanta, GA this Saturday, and figured it might be nice to shop for something to soothe my TAD.

Can anyone reccommend me a good tobacconist in the Atlanta perimeter?

My favorite shop of all time was Royal Cigar, but Joyce closed up a few years ago and does work out of her house now. It was a real treat to visit the shop and see tobacco tins, jars, bags etc from ceiling to floor (even in the closet) and rows, boxes and baskets of pipe in and on the counters.

My next favorite is the Tinder Box in Lenox Mall. The last time I was there about a year ago, they had a good selection of tins and bulks along with the Tinder Box line. And they had a good selection of pipes too, though the new owners seemed to be expanding their non smoking goods and paying less attention to their smoking supplies.

There's an Edwards Cigar shop on Piedmont near the intersection of Peachtree that's not too bad. A nice selection of new and estate pipes along with the Edward's brands. They had a few tins but mostly the bulk Edward's Blends. Edward's website One thing for sure...you'll know the aroma of Scottish Moor tobacco when you leave.

All the other shops I've been to in and around Atlanta were more into cigars than pipe stuff.

The Tinderbox at Lenox Mall is out of business. They have another location, but not anywhere close to where I'll be.

Edwards has moved, but it looks like it's not too far from where they were. I am going to try and look them up while I'm there. I dug around on the internet and found a few more places, but they all seem to cater primarily to the cigar crowd.

I do quite a bit of buying online, but I love nothing better than digging around in a well-stocked pipe shop

Pipe shops are scarce as hen's teeth in Atlanta. There has not been one worth visiting since Joyce closed her shop. Smitty's in Gainsville is worth a visit if you're on the NE side of the metro.

oooops! I should have checked before posting about the Lenox Tinder Box. My sincere apologies. Hopefully their stock and knowledgeable clerks moved to the Alpharetta location as the Lenox store was one of the best Tinderboxes I've ever entered.

Just a guess Carlos I'd say Gainsville would be about 15-20 miles from Lawrenceville, depending on where in Lawrenceville you are coming from. Nice excuse for taking a whole afternoon

The Royal Cigar was a wonderful and unique place, and Joyce was wonderful and welcoming from the word GO! My first time in I rang up my own order at the register! You talk about selection ... WOW! And if what you wanted was so obscure that Joyce somehow didn't have it, she'd have it for you in a couple of days. And though Joyce is 100% woman, she is that rare woman that is also 100% comfortable in the company of men and could keep a room full of us engaged and entertained all afternoon.

I miss my Saturday afternoons there after the Atlanta Pipe Club official meeting/gathering was over ... quite a few would hang out for the rest of the day. I wish that I'd discovered Royal Cigar sooner ... like in the first year I was in the Atlanta area. Ol Dawg's description of Royal Cigar is perfect ... a thing of beauty which sadly is no more

I stopped in at the Alpharetta Tinder Box and they had almost no pipes or tinned tobaccos, was cigars and wine.

In Gainsville there is a place called Smitty's Cigar and Tobacco. Quite a pretty good selection of Pipes. Has a case full of tins. Mainly SG. Clark, the owner, is amazingly nice. I was curious on what tin to buy and he let me smoke a few bowls of his personal tins to see if I liked it.

He also had an old pipe rack that housed an old falcon pipe. I took it off of his hands for less than 10 bucks.

In Tucker there is a place called Up in Smoke. Last time I went in all he had were 5 different types of Dunhill tins and some Stokkebye bulks.

I'm about 5 minutes from Lawrenceville (auburn, GA) and there is not much of a choice of shops. There is Lou's Smokehouse. Not much of a pipe selection but Ron (the owner) has one of the biggest humidors I have ever seen. GREAT CIGAR SELECTION. Chances are, if you walk in to his shop, he's smoking a stog and watching Sopranos on his big screen.

In Dacula, there is a place called Smoker's Embassy. He has about 20 pipes on the wall for pretty cheap. Nothing too amazing about the selection, last I checked.

In the end, Smitty's is it for pipes. It's just a 45 minute journey from my work, so I don't get to go too often.

Hope this helps. I am always looking for more smoke shops for the pipe smoker, not the cigar smoker.
