No, it's not an incurable, communicable social disease! On this date in 1999, with the impending "end of civilization as we know it" being bantered about by the news pundits (millennium change a month later), I sealed up a dozen quart Mason jars with several of my (at that time) favorite tobaccos. Not sure if I was actually planning for a bleak future, or just using it as a convenient excuse with she who must be obeyed, (really honey, if all commerce breaks down, tobacco will be better than gold, and if the worse doesn't happen, well, I can always smoke our "savings"!) but she let me place a large, bulk order most of which I packed away.

I taped the box shut and wrote on it: Do Not Open Until November 30, 2009 (which seemed a terribly long time away in 1999), and in a few hours that date will arrive. I've opened the box (but not the jars, yet) and find that I have MC Old World Classic Cake, Rattray's Old Gowrie and Marlin Flake, and an interesting mix of mostly Old Gowrie with a little Essoterica Blackpool, and a few other Virginia based blends. Also jarred up some C&D Plantation Evening, Orient Express, Star of the East, Orthodoxy and a few other odds and ends.

I've got a busy day tomorrow and really should be in bed, but I've got to stay up until midnight, just to have a small bowl of what I hope will be some fine, aged tobacco. Not intending to brag (well, perhaps just a little

Wink, but I find it amazing that long-range planning, when adhered to, can actually produce some lovely results. So my advice is to always buy double what you want to smoke and pack half away, if finances allow. You'll be glad you did.

Good for you Natch!!!

Now to draw a parallel. We live in a time when internet orders are being threatened, taxes are rising. Restrictions are being imposed.

Each person should give themselves a "future gift", dated and have the patience to celebrate the occasion at a pre-determined time in the future.

What a wonderful story of foresight and self-control...!!!

Hmm...yeah...don't we have one a them impending doomsday, armageddon-ish, apocalyptic-type events happening as of the first of the year in 2010?????

(looking for an excuse to buy up a bunch of pounds so that the lil lady doesn't wonder why hundreds are missing from the bank account...) Very Happy

Yea, but with my failing memory, I often don't remember where I stashed stuff! Just last week I put on a sport coat that I haven't warn for more than a year, and in the lapel pocket was a $20 bill. I have no idea when or why I put it there, but it was a great find. Guess every day's a new adventure, when you can't remember the previous day? lol!

That's pretty neat.... almost like opening a letter to yourself 10 years down the road. Only opening up a box of tobacco would be way more fun!

Aaahh, the're in the mail! No really, I put them in the mail today, along with the check. lol!

I must say the most interesting smoke so far was the Old Gawire/Blackpool blend (about 3-1). That hint of licorice in the stoved Va of the Blackpool adds a wonderful interest and spice to the aged OG.

Natch,

There are just too many answers for this thread topic so here are a few of them

1. grey hair
2. better credit
3. more facial hair
4. less water behind your ears
5. more fond memories about Nixon

I could go on but you know i just don't have the attention span!
