Boys its bad, horrible, the worst storm in recorded history...
The Mrs called and said it snowed last night, some places are reporting upwards of 1/4 inch accumulation...

Ky 144, 1638, US 60, and IN 135 are all closed.. Louisville is destroyed, they had A accident due to weather..

Its bad, I told momma to hunker down, I'd be there to rescue her as soon as the sqaw broke..

My God, PB! That sounds horrible!

Make sure she gets to the grocery store to buy about 8 loves of bread and 5 gallons of milk. This is what everyone used to do in Tennessee.

Sounds like they may be holed up for about half a day, and they're gonna need plenty of supplies.

PB with any luck at all your Governor will declare the whole state a disaster area and get some 'free money' from the fed. Sounds like time to mobilize the National Guard.

Damned global warming anyway ...

Rad,

I grew up in Daphne and can remember the chaos just a few inches caused in the late '90s down there. Biggest problem was the fact that nobody understands how to drive in the ice and slush.

Rad,

Same here.. We moved to Arkansas almost 20 years ago from Wisconsin, but I was born and raised on the shore of Lake Superior in the UP, so I was "a bit" used to snow. The first time three flakes fell from the sky, everyone rushed out to the grocery store and bought carts full of milk, bread, eggs, and toilet paper. People who had never eaten an omelet in their lives bought dozens of eggs? But the toilet paper baffled me. My first thought, was they used it for traction when they slid off the road into a snow bank (I pictured them rolling it out under each tire, as we used those traction strips in the North Country), but my wife summarized that perhaps the sight of snow brought on mass diarrhea?

We lived here for over a decade before we finally sold our snow shoes and cross country skis.

We got about a 1/2 inch this morning. Tuesday and Wednesday are when there is a greater chance for nasty crud. Winds up near 50 mph with snow will make driving interesting.

Wow! We got about 8" of snow about 5 miles up the road (500 feet higher in elevation) but barely a dusting here. We put the kids in the truck to take them to their mothers place 15 minutes from here because she's at that 500 foot higher elevation. Couldn't make it there! We got to within a mile of the subdivision she lives in and there were cars spun out all over the place, trees down, and a horrible mess of snow and slush in the roadway. Looks like only a few 2 wheel drive vehicles tried to get through that road (winding and climbing a hillside) and just made a mess of things. Had to back out of there and head home.

We ended up stopping at a closed elementary school and made a snowman in the front yard, had snowball fights, got cold and wet. The kids loved it, fist time they've ever seen snow. From the looks of the wrecks and spun out vehicles along the roads, was their first time too Laughing

So far all we've had in Toronto is a light dusting. I'm actually looking forward to snow. It will be a change from the boring gray skies and dormant grass. Looks like my snow blower won't be earning its keep this year!

It just don't make sense.. Sure a few fender benders are expected, but fatalitys?

I dont recall any deaths here in Cincy/NKY but people dont know how to drive in the rain let alone a dusting of snow. Wife left at 8 am and got to work at 945 am, people were spinning out allover she said. I think people have forgotten the old rules of driving in the snow relying on their four wheel drive and anti lock breaks to save them. Rule number one Slow DOWN!!!

I moved up to Syracuse after living the majority of my life in North Alabama. My first winter here had 192 (one hundred ninety two) inches of snow. I learned how to drive in the snow quickly. I also found out with that first snowfall that they don't close anything when it snows. I sure do miss the south. Sad

My favorite story about Tennessee and snow was a couple of years after I graduated from Tusculum they recieved several inches of snow. Cock County had three salt trucks for the entire county and they wrecked them in the parking lot of the city building. This resulted in the entire county closing for about a week. I grew up in a tiny little town in Ohio known for its antiques and we had the same number of salt trucks as that entire county. I just find it funny is all...
