PostSubject: A Follow-up to my recent surgery.   Mon Feb 11, 2008 10:08 pm

I thought I would give everybody a follow-up from my gastric bypass surgery. I am able to smoke once again, although I'm holding it to around four bowls a week right now. I have lost 61 pounds in 35 days. I have yet to feel hungry through the entire time. The insurance company has already paid all the bills with a cost to me of only $225 for everything. I am off of all my high blood pressure pills. In fact a week after the surgery we had a scare because I was still taking them (per doctors instructions) and my blood pressure fell to 80/40. Talk about feeling weak and light headed. Now (without the pills) my blood pressure is normal. Three days after surgery my blood sugar level fell from an average of 140-150 a day down to 104 a day. Alls I can say is that God does answer prayers and I thank all of you who prayed on my behalf.

The only down side to this whole thing. I would kill affraid for a piece of pizza right now. lol! lol! lol!

That's great news Mike.

I'm glad the surgery worked out so well for you.

I know you were scared to join Jenny Craig.

I know your smarter than that but that pizza won't taste as good as you remember AND more importantly would put you in the hospitol.

We are cheering you on! Keep up the good fight Mike.

Mike, I guess I wasn't paying attention when this came up. Man, I'm so happy for you. Good going.

Every day, you're going to feel better and better. Speaking as someone who lost a lot of weight, myself (and still has a lot to go), nothing tastes as good as being healthy feels.

I'll send you my prayers for a quick recovery.

Sounds like great results so far - are they letting you eat more solid stuff now? I'll be praying for your continued success in your healthy lifestyle change.

Happy puffin'

They are allowing me to but my stomach isn't. This part has been the toughest for me. I really have to watch what I eat so I do not choke. About the only "solid" thing that I have had without too much difficulty is meatloaf cut up into very small pieces, crackers, mashed potatoes, refried beans, cream corn and tuna salad. I had a piece of broiled fish the other day (about the size of two fish sticks) and thought I was going to have to call 911 when I started choking. I guess it is just going to take time.

My Gramps pulled all his teeth while sitting in his favorite chair. Us kids got to play with them. What I remember him doing for years was shredding all his food with his fork. Didn't matter what it was, he shredded it.

Mike, we're really glad that you're on the mend and you'll be abusing your lungs soon, but not soon enough, I'm sure. Better that you're posting. I miss your comments.

PostSubject: Re: A Follow-up to my recent surgery.   Fri Apr 04, 2008 6:38 pm

Well I guess I should give my three month progress report. I have lost 100 pounds in three days shy of three months. My blood sugar level and blood pressure are both well within the normal range. I am off most of my prescription medication now and feeling great. My energy level couldn't be better. The doctor told me in the beginning that I would lose in the "neighborhood" of 100 pounds in the first six months. I beat that by three months. I have seen him twice since the surgery and he is very pleased with my progress. I'm at the half way point of my personal goal of two hundred pounds lost before I normalize my weight. We shall see. I have the energy to catch up on home improvements and the wife and I have even planted a vegetable garden. I'm even bought me a new fly rod/reel outfit and am going to try and take up fly fishing. I would also like to thank everyone who has been asking me about my progress and who have been an encouragement. Thanks gentleman and women.
