For any of you who are giving/want to give to the humanitarian and medical relief efforts in Haiti, here's a list of charities with present efforts available: HOW TO HELP.

If you are concerned about the validity of one of these, or any charity soliciting funds, Charity Navigator is a group that rates and compares not-for-profit organizations, in a statistical, transparent way.

Thank you Doc...

In times like these it is my sincere hope that national, ethnic, religious, and any other boundaries melt away and people have compassion upon these folk.

I knee jerked pretty hard last night, sure the media is looking for that response, but I saw the image of a father bleeding, holding the lifeless body of what is assumed was his daughter... I felt so hopeless and helpless, I can't imagine what that one man is thinking, how he doesn't just lay down and die.. And to think there are literally millions of other folk with what meager life they had shattered.. Its heartbreaking.

I agree with you PB. Just looking at the footage will literally make you cry. Prayer, a lot of prayer!

Thanks for the information Doc!

We have had hundreds of rescue team volunteers pass through the airport today. I spoke briefly with a group of French Firefighters who were heading down this evening. Terrible situation to say the least. Like those folks didn't have it bad enough, now they'll have to deal with the aftermath for years if not decades........

When you hear the projected casualties, it kind of makes Katrina look like a "minor event".

Katrina wasn't a minor event for me, but I agree this level of suffering is incomprehensible.

Hermit, no offense was intended. Nor was I trying to say that Katrina wasn't a major event.
Just comparing the scale of the two events..........

KATRINA DEATH TOLL
--------------------------
Alabama 2
Florida 14
Georgia 2
Kentucky 1
Louisiana 1,577
Mississippi 238
Ohio 2
Total 1,836
(Missing & Unaccounted 705)

The totals are not obviously in for the earthquake. Estimates are as high as 100K !

PS: I was part of the Gulf Recovery Effort..........

None taken. I understood your point.
I can't even imagine what it must be like down there.
