The PACT act to ban USPS tobacco shipping was blocked at the last minute by a handful of Democratic Senators, acting on behalf of the Seneca Indian Nation.

Democrats blocking anti-tobacco laws? Native Americans with political clout in DC?

If you saw that coming... you should play the lottery this week.

Somewhat akin to the eight Democratic Senators who suddenly realized their EPA chief was getting ready to unilaterally enact a carbon-emissions rule that would devastate their states economies and cost jobs. Amazing how fast they can write legislation, send out warning letters, and suddenly decide that they really need to be in charge of writing/enacting legislation (you know, like the Constitution says!!!). All depends on whose ox is getting ready to be gored (no pun intemded!!). FTRPLT

Bingo! Though I would add that indirectly, you can also credit Scott Brown, for putting the re-election Sword of Damocles over the heads of traditionally "safe D" seats.

(Sadly, the Senecas and other American Indian lobbies won't be trying to influence any tobacco tax legislation, since it doesn't affect them.)
