I enjoyed reading about all of the celebrities that people have meet.
I was struck by the observation that numerous people mentioned being in the protection area as body guards or security people.
Is there any connection between smoking a pipe and protecting peoples lives?
I am sure that the easy answer is NO, but there must be a better story here.

I didn't smoke a pipe back in the days when I was on-set security for film stars, but for as much standing around outside doing nothing for hours at a time that we did, it would have been very nice.

I was wondering the same thing... I'm definitely an exception. At 5'7" and slightly below medium build I ain't intimidating nobody on looks alone.

So, I'm curious, just how tall are you Tallsmoke?

My son who I mentioned as being in the security business and for a while doing occasional personal security details just told me he bought his first pipe over the weekend. FYI he is about 6'3" and 275 lbs. He's been a swimmer all his life so his shoulders are about as wide as he is tall.

The trend continues!

HP, I am 6'7" tall and weigh 310 lbs. I was only about 265-270 back in the Hollywood days, though. My senior year in college playing weight was 255. I have a wide frame, so I hide the weight well. Most people guess I am around 270 now.

I was a police officer in a medium sized city for 6-years. I started smoking a pipe while an officer my last couple of years there and enjoyed many slow 3rd shift nights with a pipe in my jaw while checking stores, etc.

I'd like to think it has some thing to do with who we are as pipe smokers.
Generally, level headed, even tempered, analytical, quietly reserved, loyal, and sticklers for fine details.
These are the same characteristics found in people who are good at protection work............or it could be that we are all very good at bullshitting people Very Happy

I pretty much used all of the skills when I was a cop. Almost earned a medal on the BSing part.
