Had some sort of event in the ham shack. Not sure when either. I have a deaf 2 meter rig. A Yaesu FT2200. A power supply that lights up and supplies no 12v power. Not everything is hooked up, so it all cannot be damaged. Guess I am going to have to test some stuff and see if lightning got in or what.

That time of year I guess.

Unfortunately it is that time of year. A facility manger's nightmare. Expecting storms here tonight. had one earlier in the week that took out the boilers, chillers and air handlers in one of the facilities that I manage. Luckily we were able to get everything restored the next morning with minimal damage.

The only thing I hate weather/job related is ice and snow. All my folks seem to call in. Hopefully there'll be none of that the next 7-8 months.

I had a friend who had lightning hit his house last summer. Lost one of his two central air units, a stereo system, and a lap top. No ham radios were harmed in the incident. Crazy!

That is exciting Eggman! One of my contractors is really into HAM and has peaked my curiosity.

Congrats Eggman, just going and doing it is the hardest part of the process. I've had my general for a while and need to get myself motivated and go do the extra one of these days.

Post your call sign when you get it.

Carlos, sorry about your mishap, hope it turns out to be something minor, your FT-2200 in too nice a radio to lose. Yaesu makes very nice rigs, I have really enjoyed my FT-897.

Good luck on the repairs.

Hunter... For what ever reason I don't desire the Extra, at least not until the hateful OM die... It was hard enough listening how I wasn't a REAL General because I only had to do 5WPM.. I'd hate to have to suffer through the BS of a New Extra.

Somehow or another some people think that its my fault they lowered and then dropped the Code.. That battle was fought and lost long before I was born.

PB, I am a relative newcomer to Ham, at least as an active participant, I got my ticket by writing the exam only, so even your 5wpm is currently over my capability. Not that I don't carry around a code generator on my phone and practice when I am in that "mode" and get the chance. When I was a youngster I lusted after all the radios in the Heathkit catalog and others but could never afford to even think about it back then.

Maybe I have been lucky but I have not been chastised too badly by any of the old guard, in fact my locals on 2m who have been in it for a long time are a good bunch of guys. I don't do a lot of DX but when I do try and jump in at the end of someones conversation they usually at least answer me back and chat for a few minutes. Due to my current HOA I am antenna limited to a stealthy long-wire and a 2m whip so I can listen a lot better than I can talk at least on HF.

Anyway, about the extra class, I guess like the mountain, cause it is there.
