PostSubject: Hello from Germany!   Tue Aug 10, 2010 3:15 pm

Hi folks,

My name is Lars and Iíve been a pipe smoker for almost one year now Ė and keep enjoying it. I grew up in the north of Germany and when I was a kid, we often used to spend our family holydays in Denmark. In those holidays, my father used to smoke a pipe now and then and thatís why I always related Denmark to pipe smoking (hence the Danish nickname and avatar. Wink)

The first blends I smoked were (non-aromatic) mixtures from a local tobacconist where I also acquired my first pipe (a Stanwell Silke Brun No. 88). Later I also explored some English blends and different kinds of flakes that I soon grew quite fond of.

Presently, I have a collection of 11 pipes and keep exploring new tobaccos. Until now, I havenít been that much into aromatics (Mac Baren Navy Flake is about as close as it would get) and my favourite blends are Peterson Irish Flake (yum, I love that stuff! Very Happy), Skipperís Flake by Dan Tobacco, Mac Baren Navy Flake, Orlik Golden Sliced and Herbst 84 (an English house blend by above mentioned tobacconist).

Hereís a pic of my favourite pipe&baccy to date:

I have been a silent reader on this board for a couple of weeks now and like the idea of this international pipe community very much, so Iím glad to start and join the fun! Smile

Happy smoking,
Lars

Welcome. Germany is a great country to be in for pipe tobacco. Apart from the small American artisan blenders (like G.L. Pease) German stores sell everything that isn't available here in the Netherlands, which is why I order most of my tobacco online from your country. Of course, the price you have to pay for that is that for some reason 90% of the pipes for sale in Germany have a filter Wink

A big welcome to Bob, Lars. Nice pipe. You will find a few Peterson fans here on the boards, myself included.

Valkomen Lars! Oops, that's Swedish, but then isn't Lars? Anyway welcome aboard pardner. There's lot's to learn from these smoldering Vagabonds. I've found tobacco pleasures by the ton since joining. Babysinister and Piet are now my Holy Grails.

True, the range of tobaccos available here is amazing!
But there are of course also great tobaccos that are only available in the Netherlands: Troost Slices for example Ė havenít tried them yet but have been told they were really tasty! Iíll be sure to pick up some on my next visit to NL.
