Yes was a bad day. I remember hearing the story that Eric Clapton had bought him a left-handed Fender that same day and was going to take it to him when he heard the news of his death.

Although not as well known as the others mentioned, Steve Goodman passed away Sep. 20, 1984. A truly wonderful artist and person.
