WOW! That is awesome Mike! I thought I saw one similar to that on your website.
I don't know if you remember that old Preben Holm that I had that looked similar to it. About the only difference was the Holm was blasted. Unfortunately I traded it at a club meeting. _________________

| Here is one that I am carrying with me today for a little VA diversion. This is another Mike Brissett masterpiece. Full bent sitter, half saddle stem with a boxwood shank trim. Notice the interesting plateau bottom. This is a very fine smoking pipe that despite the full bend smokes incredibly dry. This is just another fine example of Brissett's craftsmanship!

| Here is a pipe that I am carrying with me today. A giant Bjarne sand blasted kind of Canadian style slightly bent brandy. This pipe could easily be a 1 hour+ smoke and it is a fine smoker with very thick walls and a 1" tobacco chamber. I have sort of dedicated this pipe to Original Rum and Maple.

| Believe it or not Carlos there are a couple of places in the facility that I can get away with it. Our facility was originally designed to be a smoker friendly facility.

| This Castello #10 is the twelfth in my little collection of the shape. I'd originally seen it on Luca's site (NeatPipes.com), but by the time I decided to bite the bullet and pull the trigger, it had been sold. Lucky for me, the new owner decided he didn't want it, after all, and sent it to Mike Glukler (briarblues.com), so I was able to get it. I've smoked it eight times, nothing but Maltese Falcon, in the few days I've had it, and it's great. I love the blast, and the natural finish is darkening beautifully with every bowl.
That reminds me. It's time to get a box of stuff ready to send up to Mike. I've got to pay for this thing.

| That pipe seems quite unique for a Castello. Not sure if it's how deep the blast is or what. What ever it is I love it. _________________ Jason |

| I have been looking around for a #10. Rare as hen's teeth. That one has a super finish on it. _________________

Interestingly, they're not as rare as they were a few years ago. When I first "discovered" the shape, I was smitten. Luca had one on his site for months, and no one bit. Finally, I said, "Okay, send it." When it arrived, I was surprised and amused by its diminutive size. I asked for more information.
Apparently, the shape was somewhat popular in Europe, but almost completely unknown in the US, where larger pipes are in higher demand. Castello produced only a few #10s when they made them, which was infrequently. Naturally, I went hunting. The first step was to check with Marco, and see if he could help. I also began searching ebay, all the esate shops, everything.
I managed to get four examples, including, thanks to Marco, and my dear friend Marty Pulvers, a Perla Nera. Then, a fantastic Sea Rock appeared on ebay, and I got it for a very attractive price. I was one of two bidders.
Of course, I wrote about the shape, and added pictures to my collection page. Suddenly, there was greater interest in the Brucianaso, and Castello began making more of them - and I was no longer the only guy chasing after them. So much for the bargains. Shooting my mouth off caused an increase in supply, and a corresponding increase in demand. (It's difficult to figure which came first in this case. I suspect Castello speculated that there might be in increased interest in the shape, so they made a bunch to test the waters.)
I have heard reports that even Hamlin "blames" me, though not specifically, for the popularity of the shape, which he considers "ridiculous," saying it can't possibly smoke well because of its size, though he's never had one. (He actually didn't even know the shape existed prior to my "blogging" (his words) about it...)
Subsequently, Luca had Radice produce the "Chubby Billiard," which is like a Brucianaso on anabolic steroids, and it, too, has become quite popular.
I think the story is kind of amusing. I had no idea I could sway popular opinion so drastically. _________________ Gregory L. Pease Master of the Universe G. L. Pease Artisanal Tobaccos The Briar & Leaf Chronicles 2009 In Celebration of Briar Calendar Now Available GLPn=Ø |

| Greg,
I saw that beauty on Mike's site and almost went for her myself. Congratulations of a fine #10. _________________
