Yep, you can't do anything anymore unless someone has to claim their trademark, or a phrase is registered, all done out of fear....... or even colors now....I just read where UPS has trademarked the color brown....this is so ridiculous, makes me want to move to the South Pacific.
I'm burned slap out on commercialism and sensationalism, both are out of control. Everything is now "extreme" to the point where nothing is extreme because it is so overused and used for normal things. Proves that we are truly a very primitive society after all these years.
I guess you can tell I'm really old, can't you? Slightly burnt out. Like the new saying,

Well, that doesn't change the fact that someone owns this site, it's logo and name, and has certain rights. You can make any darned shirt you want, you just can't sell em or offer em for purchase from a third party without permission. You just have to understand, you can't have some guy just stroll in and say "Hi, I'm going to sell some stuff with your logo on it!". I like your idea, I encourage the enthusiasm and hope it comes to fruition, but lets remember that your host has the right to say yes or no as to whether or not he wants this done. I suggest you make your best, most enjoyable to you presentation to the admin and see what he thinks. _________________ These are horrible times and all sorts of horrible people are prospering, but we must never let this disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to annoy and hinder them at every turn.

| A fine gentleman by the name of Christopher Noble donated the graphic for the site. I did contact him about producing shirts and what not from the logo and he said we could do anything we wanted with it. Very generous of him. the problem is the graphic, not being vector, doesn't scale well. I didn't want to bother him anymore with it being he had been so nice so I hired a cheap design firm to design a graphic that would work better for print. Probably should have went with a more expensive place so we could have gotten something a little higher quality but hey, it was coming out of my pocket and I'm a cheap bastard. We've talked about a redesign a few times with all new graphics but it really didn't go to far. My original thought was to set it up in a store like I did and let any profits sit there until there was enough money to do some other projects like the smoker's forum zippo. Stuff like that. As to ownership. I retained ownership over the name brothersofbriar.com but the site is run by and all content belongs to DPG. Kind of silly but that's how it turned out. I wasn't sure the forum was going to last for a while there but I loved the domain name and didn't want to let it go. What to do about the shirt problem and design problem? I'm not really sure but I'm open to ideas and I think DPG is as well being we've tossed around the idea a couple times. _________________ Jason "Freedom, Security, Convenience: Choose Two" "For me, I will take freedom over security and I will take security over convenience." ~ Dan Geer |

| Jason: Thanks for all the information on the logo. Sounds like it would be nice to find someone that could take the logo/sign and reconfigure it so that the graphics would be friendly to work with. Maybe now that we know what is needed, we can round up someone to do this for us affordably. I would chip in some money to the cause.

| If the shirt thing should happen and there are profits made...how about using them to help supply the next box pass should there be one? Not saying it's a great idea, just an idea. |

| You know, now that I'm thinking about it I don't know why I didn't ask Chris if I could pay him on a redesign. I think I was assuming it would just be fairly pricey. $250-500 seems to be the going rate for professional logo design services. I do like the idea of turning the wooden sign part into a vector graphic. _________________ Jason "Freedom, Security, Convenience: Choose Two" "For me, I will take freedom over security and I will take security over convenience." ~ Dan Geer |
