| During the MLB Winter Meetings, in the late hours of the night, GM Smith of the Twins asked for the medical records of Lester. Smith was satisfied. It looked like the deal was imminent for Johan Santana. Likely with Crisp and another prospect. But Smith hesitated and the weeks passed. The Yanks were adament that Hughes was untouchable. The Mets got him.
It was hoping that Lester would have had a chance to pitch against Santana in an inter-league game.
