Jason
On the Boston Globe website there are lots of videos about Jason Bay... arrival, Tito and Theo. Hopefully this begins a new atmosphere in the club house.
Yak, who the heck is running the Pirates they just gave away three nice players, two to the Yanks, this week. |

| It's too heartbreaking to think much about. So I don't, if I can help it. They decided back the road that they could make good money off the team no matter who they put out there. Barry Bonds, Andy Van Slyke, Oliver Perez . . . the list just goes on and on. People expected he'd be gone last year but greed's a two way street. Free agency starts looming and they're outta here. Most of the tiime for crackerjack prizes.
The only time we've ever made out was Freddie Sanchez. And the bozos were ready to get rid of him his first (badly hurt) year here !
Add utter incompetence . . . It just hurts too much to get deeply into, Puffs.
(Those are yo-yo operators, by the way -- not basketball dribblers. Only emoticon we have that even comes close).

| | It's too bad... most of the comments I've heard is that Pittsburg could have got much more for them... better prospects at least. Jason Bay has had two wonderful games for the Red Sox so far. Nady looks like a solid .300 plus hitter in the Yankees line-up and Marte gives them their leftie reliever that they didn't have. |

| The Bucs continue to be a farm team for the rest of the league. As long as there's no revenue sharing, there's no money for fielding a decent team, and as long as they continue to play last-place ball, the fans will stay away.
I don't know a single person who holds out any hope for a decent season in the future here in Pittsburgh. Even my friends with season tickets expect the team to continue to flounder. Personally, I'm happy for Jason Bay. He deserves a shot with a winning team. |

| Yo Mongo, Of course there is revenue sharing , ie, The Red Sox, Yankeesand any other team, who in player payroll goes over a certain limit, they have a "kick-back" system to the rest of the teams that have a low payroll, but what usually the teams pocket these monies, and dont spend it on players.Kn Pacem en Puffing! | Being a Pirates fan has taken over the slot being a Cubs fan used to occupy in the annals of futility. The only reason I watch is to root for the guys themselves.
From what I read, Jason is seriously pumped about finally playing for a contender. The "X-Man" and Domasso probably likewise. I'm happy for all three of them. They've gone from baseball purgatory to close enough to heaven for government work.
Baseball in Pittsburgh has been a shambles for so many years people here pretty much expect more of the same. And the hell of it is, a lot of losses are from relievers coughing up hairballs in the late innings of games we would have won.
Normal.
So it goes.

| | There's revenue sharing and then there's revenue sharing. Kickbacks based on payrolls are one thing, whereas kickbacks based on revenue would be quite another. |

| You'll never get NFL-style parity unless a salary cap accompanies the revenue sharing. (And it wouldn't hurt to have a zero-cost farm system like the NFL and NBA have in the NCAA.)
Don't expect a worst-to-first this season, but all the Pirates need to make a run is a healthy, young team in a close/mediocre division. The Rays, Twins, and even the Marlins (whose total payroll is $3 million LESS than their payroll kickback) are serious contenders--they might be in for heartbreak, but nobody can say that they didn't hold their own against the rich boys. |

| Bay fits in wonderfully. Hitting 5 or 6, he says is so unusual for him. He doesn't have the pressure of producing all the time. But he still seems to be producing all the time... _________________ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WixcqHFm-H8 |
