This morning I was on my way to a funeral and listening to the Jim Rome radio show. I'm almost to my desitination and he begins one of his tirades about, of all things, pipe smokers.

Yesterday he was driving along and looked at a truck driving next to him (must have been PB). The guy driving the truck was smoking a pipe. So Jim Rome says he hauled out his cell phone camera and tried to get a picture of this guy smoking a pipe. However, the trucker driver sped up and he couldn't get the picture.

Jim Rome then rants on and on about how antiquated pipe smoking is... something to the effect that no one smokes pipes anymore. In fact, in California, no one smokes tobacco any more.

I couldn't listen to all he said as I had to leave the car. But I noticed on his Web Site, there are emails that people sent in. One mocked pipe smokers as wearing tweed jackets with leather elbows.

If I didn't know Jim Rome does these things to "hear his own voice", I'd respond to him. And I'm not paying a subscription price to join the "Jungle".

"This just in, (paper rattling cause he's a dumbass), Canadian Pipesmoker says 'Jim Rome is a loser!' As all the 'Jim Romes' know Canadians are Asshats anyway, my god they don't even have a baseball team, and don't bother calling and correcting that,even the Canadian Romeys live in the Red Sox Nation!" (More paper rattling) "Next Up Is Jim Romes hair real?"

I listen to sports talk radio in my office every day but Rome got preempted by our local baseball team broadcast(I'd rather have had nails across a chalkboard..the play by play guy sucks!!) so I didn't get to hear it.

I'm not a big fan of Rome the person, he's the guy who never played a sport in his life yet works in the sports talk industry. Probably spent a fair share of his high school years stuffed in lockers or carrying around ball bags for the guys who actually played.

I am a fan of some of the phone calls and emails the "clones" put out there. Some funny stuff. But I can take it or leave it in the end. If Rome never talked, it would be a better show by far. I have a hard time swalling his "uber hip lingo". I'm years younger than this guy and would never think about speaking in that style. Guess I'm not hip because I smoke pipes cheers

The only time Rome is worth listening to is when 'Rome' is actually Frank Caliendo doing Rome impressions.

Watched part of his show years ago; wasn't impressed. Another "talking head" who has yet to learn that opinions are like assholes; everybody has one!! I would like to hear a radio/TV rant about how many damn "sports" shows are on at any given time! Fer cryin' out loud! Give it a rest. Go get a real job! Oh, I forgot. Most of them aren't qualified for any "real" job! Oh well, guess I'm just gettin' old and crotchety!!! FTRPLT
