| Having lived in Chicago for 25 years I know the agony. But I am still a hopeful Cubbie fan forever. Maybe this year? |

| Yep, I'm pulling for the Cubs to make to the World Series. Unfortunately Soriano's out, but that is part of it. You need a lot of good health and good breaks and a little help, occasionally, from other teams who are beating your challengers.
And it does help to get rid of the "ghost" .
Cubbies are playing the Blue Jays this weekend... Jays won. That Roger's Stadium in Toronto is massive and the atmosphere seems almost dead. But the Cubs have great spirit. _________________ "Manny changing the attitude in the clubhouse. | We have the Cubs farm team here in Des Moines and I like the Cubs as much as anyone, but.....................
"Just in case we need to remember how bad it can be... here are 20 major events that have occurred since the Chicago Cubs last laid claim to a World Series championship:
1. Radio was invented. (Cubs fans get to hear their team lose)
2. TV was invented. (Cubs fans get to see their team lose)
3. Baseball added 14 teams. (Cubs fans get to see and hear their team lose to more clubs)
4. George Burns celebrated his 10th, 20th, 30th, 40th, 50th, 60th, 70th, 80th, 90th and 100th birthdays.
5. Halley's comet passed Earth - twice.
6. Harry Caray was born... and died. Incredible, but true!
7. The NBA, NHL, NFL, IHL, and ISL were formed. (Each of those Chicago teams have each won championships)
8. Man landed on the moon. (As have several home runs given up by Cubs pitchers)
9. Sixteen U.S. presidents were elected.
10. There were 11 amendments added to the Constitution.
11. Prohibition was created and repealed.
12. The Titanic was built, set sail, sank, was discovered, and became the subject of major motion pictures. The latter giving Cubs fans hope that something that finishes on the bottom can come out on top.
13. Wrigley Field was built and becomes the oldest park in the National League.
14. Flag poles were erected on Wrigley Field roof to hold all of the team's future World Series pennants. (Those flag poles have since rusted and been taken down)
15. A combination of 40 Summer and Winter Olympic games have been held.
16. Thirteen baseball players have won the Triple Crown. (Several thanked Cubs pitchers)
17. Bell-bottoms came in style, went out of style, and came back in.
18. The Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks and the Florida Marlins have all won the World Series.
19. The Cubs played 14,153 regular-season games. (They lost the majority of them)
20. Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Oklahoma, and New Mexico were added to the Union." |

| I can hear my wife (the die-hard Cardinals fan) snickering when a Cubs fan talks about winning it all this year.
I bet there is a Cardinals jersey buried under home plate at Wrigley field. _________________

| God Bless Auggie Busch, when I was stationed near St.Louis at Scott AFB during the late 60's we were admitted to the Cardinal games free if we were in uniform.A free bus from the base used to take us to all the home games. This was a big deal because we were always broke[pay was $100 a month] and civillians used to buy us free beer because they had served in WW2 or Korea and knew how it was with us. It seems like those days are over now, people don't respect the uniform like they once did.Reminds me of Kiplings poem "Tommy Atkins",Tommy this and Tommy that and chuck him out "the brute",but it's thin red line of 'eroes when the guns begin to shoot.

| Apparently the Cubs are scouting the Red Sox and are quite interested in Coco Crisp. On the table for Crisp is Matt Murton whom the Cubs are "show-casing" for a few games and lefty Rich Hill.
The way the Bosox players are going on the DL or encountering injuries, I doubt if the Bosox will trade Crisp yet. _________________ "Manny changing the attitude in the clubhouse. | Beware of Greeks bearing gifts.Anyone the Cubs give the Red Sox may be a mole to undermine your team.We don't want you in it come October.

| Wonderful series in Chicago... White Sox vs Cubs. The Cubs have come back to tie the game this afternoon. It's the top of the 9th, but there is a lead-off double by the Sox.
It's a "White Sox" broadcast and Ken Harrelson, the Hawk, is on play by play. It doesn't make this game too enjoyable. Of all the play by play guys, the Hawk is too much of a "homer". Anyone playing against the White Sox are "the bad guys". He's missed the spirit of the Chicago Cubs atmosphere... too bad.
Now it's 3-3 going to the bottom of 9th GO CUBBIES... _________________ "Manny changing the attitude in the clubhouse. It's like hearing that Pope Benedict XVI had 'em rolling in the aisles with his stand-up routine at the Vatican." -Dan Shaughnessy |

| Wow... first pitch... walk off homer by Rameriz to win it!!! centrefield over the 400 mark. The Hawk is speechless... The fans have drowned him out any way _________________ "Manny changing the attitude in the clubhouse.
