| even' All, I have had to be patient, but my cellaring of tabac is really paying some big time tastes! After having smoked for yrs. & yrs. I never thought of cellaring tabacs, then I stopped being a dinosauer! Around '03 I started "putting some by", then it became a passion, now alot of my tobacs are 2-5 yrs. old! | I'm at the point of slowing down on the cellaring and opening ones I haven't tried. I must have over a hundred blends that I haven't enjoyed yet. I still buy occasionally. Yesterday i ordered a pound of Medium Virginia Flake and 1/2 lb of Red Cake. I'll always enjoy them. Tonight I opened a tin of McConnell Scottish Flake. It's very nice but I likely won't replace it, so many blends.

| I only started a few months back, maybe a year with some stuff. Still trying to get the mix between tins & bulk right - I haven't figured that yet. I also haven't quite figured what I really should be cellaring. Right now I reckon I'm seriously underweight on good Va's. This one I'm going to do in bulk - the cost saving is very significant. So, I'm still on the learning curve - & loving it.
270 tins!! My word. |

I'm just gettin' started!
When I started smoking pipes I had a three or four year supply of cigars. It suddenly became a ten year supply.
Starting my supply of pipe tobacco, I used this site, ICC/IPC, Tobaccoreviews.com and others to get an idea what experienced smokers liked. Then I started trying stuff and getting an idea what I liked and bought things that were similar. I have 83 tins of stuff I haven't tried yet. When I smoke something I really like, I buy a few more to put away. As I go through those untried blends and find winners, I will add more. |

| Some of my tobacco is at the five year mark, or more, and probably 1/2 my stash will be at five years in a year or two. I'm a stickler for 5 years as as you know, that is a complete aging cycle. I can always find something else to smoke and let that tobacco age.
Some few tins/jars are already past 5 years; don't know as I'll open it or let it go 10 or 20 years, especially the VA. _________________ From Stanley Kubrick's "Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb"

| I still have a pretty small stash (50 tins or so) and I'm just now getting some that I bought over a year. I have been gifted or purchased some older tins, a couple that are approaching five years. I had been going with the plan of buying three tins of a new to me blend, on to sample now and two to age but I'm finding that there are few that really wow me so I think I'm going to change to buying a bunch of what I know I love and singles of samplers. _________________ Jason |

| According to "Online Tobacco Cellar" at the present rate I am good for another eight years or so in tins alone. I probably have another five or six pounds of bulk tobacco stuck here and there in jars. I buy a pound or two of something a couple of times a year and a few tins every other month or so. _________________ Jim

| | Good thread! Made me go count what I had! 92 tins...all sizes...50g., 2oz., 3.5oz., 4oz., 100g., 8oz., plus an 8oz. package of Penzance. Most of this little collection is 2-7 yrs. old, with a few of GLP's most recent productions between one and two yrs. About 8# of various bulk tobaccos, all 2-5 years old. It's been a while since I popped any of the tins! I believe the last one's opened were Arcadia, FM, FMATP, and McC's #14, all about 7 yrs old. Gotta' work on popping the tins a bit more often. I just gravitate to the bulks; plus I must work on the 'gar stash a bit also!! Our weather has heated up quite a bit here; so the puffing has slowed down due to the darn uncomfortable temps!! | I've barely been smoking a pipe three years, still searching for my favorite(s), so I'm wicked new to cellaring. I do have a few well-aged tins by virtue of ordering less-popular tinned blends that shipped from old dead-stock, but that's it.
I had finally gotten into the habit of ordering two tins of everything, and I was planning on starting to jar up bulks I'd fallen in love with... only to realize that I'll be moving twice in the next two years, not exactly ideal conditions for a cellar. So for the time being, it's whatever I can fit in those big Tupperware sweater boxes, and not much else.
Still, I can't shake the feeling that it's still a smart move to stock up against market and tax changes. |

| My cellar in quite small but I have been working on it heavily the last two years. My oldest tin was a 2004 Haddo's Delight which I opened last week. That is a whole different post because that is a well aged blend. my next oldest is seven tins of 2005 Blackwoods Flake. I have some good bulk blend aging too. I am trying to wait out the SG Full Virginia Flake. That is a hard one for me to just see it sitting there. I have about different tins and about 7 pounds of bulk.

That is my thinking too. The fact is that tobacco is not going to get any cheaper as time passes. _________________ Jim
