I'm wanting to buy a new pipe and I'm looking at a couple of Jirsa pipes, a couple of Stanwells, a couple of Savinelli's, and a couple of Petersons. All in the $60-$80 price range. I would actually like to find something a bit cheaper, but I don't know about the quality of cheaper pipes other than H.I.S., which I have a couple of and really like. I'm looking at straight pipes, because I have all bent right now. I have two Jirsa's and really like both of them. For me they are darn good smokers and seem easy to clean. I would not hesitate to get another. Price wise they are great but so is the Stanwell. You really can't go wrong with either but I really like the Jirsa's even if I have more Stanwells. Which ever one stikes the special cord that you can resist LOL. Both are good. cyclops

I think the best bang for your buck right now for under even $60 are the new Kaywoodies that you can find at Gray Fox. http://www.grayfoxonline.com/index.html I have a couple of them and they are high quality good smoking pipes IMHO. Gray Fox offers free shipping on every order. I only paid $32 for one of the Kaywoodies that I bought from them and they didn't charge me shipping. They have a huge selection right now as Mike just got a bunch of new ones in. Here's a link to a sample of what they have. You said you were looking for a straight pipe.

You might look at all the offers over there. Some Tinsky's on a deal if they have any left.

Also, Mark Tinsky is one of several carvers doing the 2008 ASP pipe. Another deal. A Belge shape this year. Good chance to own a Rad Davis also, if you are on a budget. I am not familar with the other briar carver. Altinok is doing a meerschaum version for them. You can find the links on the ASP homepage. Or check the carvers sites.

There is a bunch of carvers, many with real talent. Some advertise in the commercial posting sections of the boards. Check the Town Crier forum here and you may find something you must have. Guys are always posting trades and sales on pipes. Keep a watch out.

I have quite a few (at least eight) Jirsa's including one of their "high grades" The guy who imports them into the states lives here in Arizona. IMHO you cannot beat them for value by dollar cost. I would put them in the same value/price range category as Stanwell, Savinelli, Peterson and Vauen. They are well constructed, drilling is right on and they are easy to break in. Their grading system is one star to ten that I know of. My "high grade" is an eight star. I personally prefer them over the Peterson's because of the break in factor and construction. I think you can get more bang for the buck when comparing them against a Stanwell or Savinelli. I don't think you can go wrong with a Jirsa for smoke-ability, quality and value in the $40 to $100 range. Those Jirsa pipes are very nice looking. I remember seeing them in the Dan Catalog.
