I'm finding myself more and more going back to some of my original pipes that I purchased when I started this wonderful hobby some thirty plus years ago since being quarantined due to this Covid-19 pandemic. Has anyone else found themselves going back to some of their older pipes. I'm guessing to me its a comfort level thing during these trying times. Your thoughts?

Wish I still had the pipes I got back in the early 70s when in college. Sad mistake in selling them. Had savs, saseini, gbd, bbb, comoy, and a couple of hand carved danish. Don't think I paid over 20 bucks for any of them.

I routinely visit my older briars and meers. I still have the first two pipes I owned; a Grabow and a Dr. Plumb!! Also, my first-ever meer! A Hayim Pinhas bought at the Ramstein AB, Germany BX in1970!! FTRPLT

I admit that most of the pipes I bought in the 1960s and 70s are long departed. And most of my high grades, Dunhill, Ashton, Castello, etc. I gave to my older daughter to sell on Ebay, when her finances were stretched. (She did well!) I could have kept the pipes and given her the money, but as I'm aging and aging and aging, I prefer to lessen the inventory, while just not handing out cash. I still have 70+ pipes that can go years unsmoked. About 2-3 years ago, I began to smoke cobs. One by one I replaced all the stems with Italian acrylic and now, with rare exception, I'm smoking a well broken in cob. I should gather most of the pipes and send 'em off to Smokingpipes.com for an offer, but if i get an Insult in lieu of an offer I'll be super pissed off.

I suppose they'll all wind up in a shoe box on my lawn during the yard sale my daughters will have when I croak.

I can sympathize with RSteve. I'm getting to an age where I've probably got more pipes than years.;)
Currently 'thinning the herd' of some of my better pipes on Ebay. Not so much for the money (which is nice) but to give others a chance to enjoy my beloved briars.
Sadly, some of my 'branded' pipes have had the nomenclature rubbed out over years of use. A nice Comoy with extra faint markings ain't worth squat.

Several years ago (could be 20) I purchased an Ashton estate pipe. It was virtually unsmoked. At the time, I thought I'd gotten a nice bargain. It didn't cross my mind, nor did I realize that the original stem had been replaced. After I gave it to my daughter to sell on Ebay, she received multiple inquiries about the location of the original stem. Without the original stem or an Ashton made replacement, the pipe's value was significantly less than what I'd paid.

I went though a similar thing a few years back; I sold off a bunch of pipes and kept only the ones I really smoke or that I can't get rid of for reasons of provenance etc. Then I vowed to smoke each one in rotation. It lasted for a good while but I don't think I actually got through all of them; I'm a "whichever pipe speaks to me at this moment" guy so I'm pretty sure I got off track.
