Once again it is time to move. Will be staying in the same area but the owner of the house we are renting has decided to sell so we gotta get out. Found a new place right down the street and will start the move soon.

I HATE moving and I have a feeling that one we get settled I will receive orders to change duty stations because that would be my luck lol.

I’m with you in my hatred of moving. We’re stable here. But my kids keep moving. Arrgghhhh!

When I went off to college that was a line in the sand...when I started being responsible for myself in pretty much every way. Certainly, no one helped me lug my junk in and out of rented vans and up and down stairs, etc., etc., etc. Ah well...good kids are worth it.

I think one of the main reasons that I stayed in my house after my daughters were adults and moved out and my wife died (2008) was that I hate the thought of moving. I built my house in 1983 and if I move, at least half of the stuff in the house would require disposal as I'd move to something much smaller. I am getting ever closer to moving into an apartment, so I have no maintenance. This year, I have lots of grandchild duties, but once the pandemic ends and life is more normal, the grandkids who require daycare will very likely go back to a daycare center. The grandchild who spends three or four days a week with me is 15-months-old and has been with me since last March. I worry about her transition to daycare and the loss of her 1:1 relationship with me. I'm committed to caring for her through this school year, but if my health remains as it is, I may take her for another year and save my daughter' and her husband the $18k for a year of daycare. Prior to the pandemic, my daughter's three kids in daycare=$42,000 annually.

D.L., I feel your pain!! I spent 11 years on active duty; had fourteen PCS moves (I went thru Training Command twice plus a remote overseas tour); not counting numerous TDYs (both stateside and overseas). After I separated, my kids started asking when we were going to move again!! This after being in one place for less than a year!! FTRPLT

When we were much younger, my wife and I moved fairly frequently as we seemed to make a hobby of buying and selling homes, along with two job related moves. We’re in our eighth house in nearly 47 years of married life and have been in our current home for 19 years. I don’t plan on moving again unless it is to an assisted living or out to “the hill.” Moving lost its luster a long time ago.
Good luck with your move @D.L.Ruth!

This will be our 8th in 15 years, hopefully only one more forced move then we get to choose where to go

That's a lot of experience living in different locales. Just curious - which of the eight places did you enjoy the most? Any thoughts yet on where you'd like to end up in four years?

Most favorite would probably be Ft Campbell, KY (about 40 min from Nashville, TN). Nashville was a pretty awesome city. Outside the US favorite spot is probably Korea, had a blast there.

Not sure where we will end up in the end. I'm originally from up north and the wife is from Nevada so we are constantly arguing on whether we should live in a hot desert area, or a normal place where it snow.

Move to Colorado you can have both in the same day. Ft Carson. I hate moving

DL, my sympathies for you. Being in aviation for 40 years moved a lot. Always someone offering more money or higher status position. Fortunately, several of the moves were company paid, even packing, but still a big PITA. Maybe consider AZ but up in the mountains, Prescott or Flag? Warm summers, not as hot as NV, some snow, and way less expensive than CO.

Ps. Campbell area is nice too. Have a nephew who lives in Clarksville about 40 miles from Nashville. Retired from Ft. Campbell.

I went through basic at Fort Campbell in 1967. That area has a very damp cold. I was colder than at home in a Minnesota winter.
