I know this is a fairly old topic so please pardon my tardiness.

Perhaps a smoking shed. Many writers have a small shed in their yard as a quiet place set aside for writing. I've been thinking of adding one to my yard for a not so far away private get-away.

Ah, you are a bit farther North from where I used to live in Franklin County, VA. I found the winters quite mild except for a few days when I had to smoke in my shed or indoors. I (even today) prefer smoking outside, I enjoy being outdoors more than indoors. Summers were a different issue. Some days were just too hot, humid, and still to enjoy even sitting in my wood lot having a smoke.

I generally found the woods around my house quite nice for a place to sit and relax and smoke a pipe. I had a place cleared for a bench and I spent many hours out there. Not all possible for everyone, and I miss living there.

I've always wanted to get a decent sized shed as a smoking room, but since we rent and move every few years will have to wait until we settle down.

Brunello, just read this post. As I have only been on here a couple of months now I have been going back and reading a lot of the old posts. I find them quite interesting. Read a really good one this am by Klaus from 2012 regarding his experience with some 30 year old Balkan Sobranie. Sort of a mini novel but worth the read and stirred up some old memories. But more on that later. You mentioned maybe retiring to AZ. Just to let you know. All of AZ is not hellish hot. Just the valley and flatlands. The mountain areas like Prescott and Flagstaff have moderate summers, highs usually high 80s maybe 90 and winters hardly ever below mid 20s with some snow that usually melts by the next day. You should come visit sometime.

Just as I was ramping up my research on properties in northern Arizona my wife says she wants to look at North Carolina. Why? Well, our son is getting serious about a girl and her family all live in North Carolina. Naturally she wants to be near wherever he may end up settling. That is apparently the end of the discussion. Oh well, still enjoy visiting an old friend in Flagstaff, and my brother who has retirement property near Prescott.

Have some friends from here who just moved to NC, near a place called Murrells Inlet? and they really like it there. If you get to Prescott look me up.

Currently based in Mohave Valley, AZ until next summer. The evening sunset is prime for a cigar or pipe. The usual drink is water but the occasional Crown Peach or Salted Caramel is a great accompaniment.

I can't smoke indoors as my wife had a very sensitive nose. Heck, she can smell dog pee from a block away, lol. I love smoking outdoors. Our rear patio faces east so it does get warmed by the morning sun. We also have a propane patio heater that helps when the temps are below 40. The last few days when temps were in the low 30's by 7 pm, I set up a little smoking area in my garage. Not great scenery like outdoors, but good enough to enjoy a short smoke.

Because I live alone, I can smoke anywhere in my house, but I usually only smoke in the laundry room or in the kitchen, where there two exhaust fans. When the weather permits, I smoke on the deck.

Oops, forgot to add that I frequently smoke while on the porcelain throne.

When at home in Arizona I can smoke anytime on our covered front porch except during the day when its 110+ outside. Currently while in Sullivan Indiana helping out with the Granddaughter while she is having her surgeries at Shriners or out camping living in my camper I smoke both in the camper or under the awning sitting in my camp chair.

Mike, do you have misters on the porch? When I lived in Tucson several of the outdoor restaurants like Chuys had them. Really seemed to make a difference when temps got over 100.

At my old house in Glendale I did have misters installed on my back deck and you are correct they do make a difference. On the new place in Peoria I don't because of no water outlet at the front of the house/mobile home. I need to figure out how to run a water line from the back of the house.

Irrigation tubing? Simple and cheap.

I should have added that when I'm in the finished part of my basement, I can open a window and rest this on the sill: I have what's considered the pro model, typically used for drying carpets. Lasko model #U15610.

Despite being summer here is Aus, it has been remarkably cold and wet where I am for the last week or so. This meant I was not able to smoke outdoors at all as my favourite smoking haunts were rather moist and I can't smoke indoors with a houseful of non smokers. So I haven't had a puff at all since this started until today when the sun came out and let me get outdoors.

I'm tempted to try a small box fan in my studio but I have some expensive electronics in there that I don't wish to gum up. If you've ever worked on the insides of a smokers computer you'll know what I mean. Shudders in disgust.:eek:

If you have windows on two sides of your studio, two fans with one exhausting air and the other turned to bring in fresh air should take care of things. It's the setup I have in my basement. It is noisy, however.

LOL I'm one of those flatlanders: Yeah but its a dry heat all 122 degrees of it, then again so is an oven. In the summer I will usually smoke on my front porch late at night or early morning. Right now being in Indiana and staying in my 30 foot toy hauler I smoke both inside the camper or on a lawn chair by the firepit.

Yep, lived in Tucson for almost 7 years. In the summer switched over to cigars mostly. We could smoke on the covered patio at Chuys. 120 degrees and misters going. Lots of cerveza to keep cool, lol.
