A fella on another site said he is selling all his McClelland cellared tobaccos; said it just seemed silly not to.  I guess he's right but I'm going to hoard and smoke mine.  I've seen movies where a character lit a cigar with a $100 bill and I always wondered what that would feel like; now I'll know :D !

I went deep on 2010 Christmas Cheer. I may sell a couple tins in a few years. I dunno. I do have 8 oz of 5100, and I must say that it just doesn't work for me. That, I'll definitely sell at some point.

I fully admit it's a conundrum. Just looking at Pipestuds latest auction, my PCCA's, Esoterica's, GLPs, old DHs, and various McClellands +/McC-mades, and Syrian-laced 'baccy's, etc. are worth a bloody fortune. But, I didn't buy them to resell; I bought them to smoke. So all these "bulging bottoms" are staying with me!!! FTRPLT

I don't think so, but one can never tell. As the astute Lt.Fancy once said, "Everything's a situation."

This for me. They're worth more to me as something to enjoy rather than what $$ it can generate.

Cheers,

I have a few FM, FMOTT, FMOTB and FMOTP. I was actually pondering this week. Not so much for the money but I've kind of fallen out of the latakia kick I had for 20 years. So now I'm not sure what I will do. Probably keep it as my taste may swing back that way in the future.

It was sort of inevitable, wasn't it? That McClelland would go up in price? Watching a certain online vendor sell consigned McClelland as quickly as he can unbox and list them, and for prices 20-25+% more than the last time I looked, I'm wondering if I can afford to smoke even a bowl of my small reserves. I don't have a whole lot, but things are nuts out there. Honestly, I don't want to sell anything I have, but still, this awareness isn't a positive thing.

It's the conundrum of liking and appreciating quality things, which often do become rare and desirable; and also longing for a simpler, no-brainer situation when there was no awareness or consideration to be had for the mundane.

I have quite a bit that I will eventually sell. (Dunhill, too.)
My conundrum is that I'd be ashamed to sell it for what it's worth. ;)
I suppose I'll send to Pipe Stud or 4noggins consignment.
If it were a favorite, I'd keep it, but I'd trade it all for Hamborger Veermaster.

Why not take that consignment percentage and just subtract it from the prices you feel fair, offering a real deal in the process? Handing over the hassle notwithstanding, which is definitely understandable to not want to mess with it all.

Nope, not going to sell any of mine, it was bought to be smoked by me and any other appreciative pipe smoker I know. There's a stack of their English blends and a good chunk of their Virginias in my cellar. Maybe if it payed off my mortgage but the prices are still too low for that. ;)

I was curious about sales via Pipestud and contacted him. He and I have very similar backgrounds in the broadcast industry. Seems like a very honest and genuine guy. I have a considerable amount of tobacco that appears to be drawing high retails from his clients. To be 100% honest, I hate selling, packing, and shipping. I am always more amenable to packing up what I'm not going to smoke, buying plenty of rolling papers, and dropping it off at one of the local tent cities.

But, situations have changed. My older daughter lost her teaching job and finding a new one during the pandemic has been impossible. She refuses to take money from me, but I've tasked her with selling all of my collections, under the condition she keeps the proceeds. Although a city guy, I've collected western boots for decades, Lucchese, Tony Lama, Dan Post, Justin, and Nocona. As an old phart, I really can't wear many any more, particularly those with pointed toes. She's pretty well cleared out the closet. I got space and she got some much needed dough without feeling like she got a handout.

When Pipestud quoted me some of the prices he's getting for in-demand tobacco, I thought, why not have my daughter fill a box with tobacco and the pipes I'm not smoking and send them all off in one shipment. She can keep track and collect some money. I know it's the lazy way out, but with my upcoming surgery, and months of potential rehab, I think it's the thing to do.

Steve(Pipestud) did tell me that Peterson's continuing the Dunhill blends has seriously reduced the value of any fairly recent Dunhill tins. Apparently, many people bought heavily, speculating that they'd become valuable, but not so.

The Dunhill product made after Murray's got out of the business isn't worth much resale-wise. There's just too dang much of it! On the other hand, should you have any of the old DH 'baccy, tinned and/or from the Dunhill store in London, or the Murray-made product; you may get some serious coin for that!! I laugh at what some folk/s are trying to get on eBay for the post-Murray tins. Steve/Pipestud has a good idea what price to put on a product! Let's face it, folks, Syrian Latweed, McClellands Ginnyweed/s et al, PCCA, BS 759, etc., etc. ain't coming back! FTRPLT

Went to his website today and was blown away by the prices on some McClelland blends. Have several tins of FMOTT but not ready to part with it yet. Kinds wish now I hadn't smoked the last two tins of St. James Woods. I contacted him and found out we are both horse people. Told him I'm not ready to sell yet, but, if I get bucked off and trampled I'll have the wife box up everything, pipes and tobacco, and send it to him for resale. Might get enough pay for the pine box, lol.
